Teenage mood swings are known to be down to hormones, but scientists claim they have identified the specific one that makes adolescents so volatile:

I'm not feeling the pill idea. Maybe teens are supposed to learn from having a harder time emotionally... and would lose out on some emotional growth if they got an easy pill.
I'm not too sure I'm feeling it either. Seems better to since to talk to your teens and help them deal with stress the best they can. Or try something natural?????????

Even if teens drive parents crazy, I am sure that the hormone serves a purpose - if the THP hormone calms adults but makes teens anxious then maybe it just takes time for their brain to mature to get used to it - using a pill to block the effects might prevent their brains from maturing properly, assuming they are even right about THP, which they may not be...

Do we have to have pills for everything? I thought times of emotional turmoil are normal - just like toddlers sometimes get temper tantrums because they are GROWING and learning how to deal with emotions. Why do I get the feeling they want to turn us into robots? Should we all just sit and smile with a blank stare and drool coming out of the corner of our mouths? Then we wouldn't be bothering anyone with any emotional angst, you know. We'd be dumb and happy. Just like they want our kids to be! :x :x
OK, sorry for the rant. I just don't think ALL behavioral issues need to automatically require a pill. :?

This reminded me of the old Twilight Zone episode "Number 12 looks just like you" where after a certain age they make everyone beautiful and thoughtless to spare them the difficulties of the teenage years and being less than gorgeous.
Our society does seem too quick to medicate and too slow to deal with the root issues of problems - like the real reason we have more problems with teens now than we used to is bec the trad'l family structure has been damaged and too often teens are often left to their own devices.

Seems like the easy way out is to give a kid a pill and tell them to go away...I know that feeling all too well. God designed developement the way that He did for a reason.
