Freeze bread? And protect it from freezer burn? And how long can you freeze it? And how do you thaw it out? Is there any special instructions? And is there a different way for store bought bread to homemade bread? tia :)

I will go to the bread store and buy 6 loaves or more. (I don't have a deep freeze only my fridge/freezer) I can keep bread in there for a month or more (we usually use it pretty fast) I just pull it out and put it in the cupbord I keep my bread in and let it thaw on it's own. I have never felt like it had freezer burn. Once I had a poor quality bread and once I found, that the bread fell apart more than I liked so I just make french toast with it....taste was perfect! hth. melinda 09-11-2011, 08:16 PM yes thank you! we go through about 2 loaves a week(just dh the boys like to buy their lunch at school but in summer we go through like 3 to 4 loaves) but I see bread on sale sometimes I wish to buy it or stock up on it to save money but had no clue if there was special intructions to freeze, but this cinnamon swirl bread by pepperidge farm is good, I love it lol but its a very small loaf for 3.69 and they had it on sale for 2.00 so I stocked up on it but know it will ruin before i get to eat it so thats one of the reasons I am asking too, but thanks again :) I will try it and see how it goes :) jen1981 09-11-2011, 08:26 PM We use bread pretty quickly so I just freeze it in the package from the store. Homemade bread is a bit different. I always wrap it when it's warm, plastic wrap, then foil. That keeps it moist and seem to protect it well. If it's something like dinner rolls, I just put them in a gallon freezer bag and pop them in the freezer. Just thaw on the counter. It's easier to slice homemade bread before you freeze it. That way you can also just thaw a few slices at a time rather than a whole loaf since homemade gets stale a lot more quickly than store bought. melinda 09-12-2011, 08:35 AM Thank you! I will have to search to find out why some recommend not freezing bread, that's interesting, that reminded me of my grandma she doesn't refrigerate her ketchup and thinks its weird that people do, I thought you had to when its open and her brand of ketchup she buys(can't remember which it is) but you can't find anywhere on there to refrigerate after opening, my heinz says for best results refrigerate after opening so it doesn't sound like a requirement with that one, but have unopen huntz in my pantry and it says MUST refrigerate after opening, I tell her ketchup must be fake no real tomatoes lol if doesn't need refrigerated lol melloyellochelle 09-13-2011, 03:23 PM I freeze my bread all the time too. :) And I can't help but say WOW! $3.69 for breakfast bread?? I LOVE that bread too but I can get it for $2.50 normally. Crazy how different the prices are from one place to another. But I'd totally stock up when I see better prices. With Brock in school we go through a decent amount of bread a week. Paloma, I had never heard of that either. I can't imagine it hurts the grain. But maybe something with the preservatives? I'll have to check it out for sure. Could be cultural though. I love things like that though - in one cultural it's totally normal and acceptable. In another it's like "What in the woooorld?!" LOL!
