Ok, so I am a drama queen lately! LOL
So, I have this bad cold, and DD started getting it a few nights ago, and when she started to get it, she kept waking up in the middle of the night wide awake and wouldn't go back to sleep for a few hours. Then she would wake up ready for the day a few hours later. Well last night was the worst. She started spiking temps yesterday, so we had to take her in the doctor "just to get checked." She had woken up early, but that was ok. She wouldn't go down for a nap, and has been almost refusing to sleep in her crib since she started getting sick. Well, she fell asleep sometime around 6pm last night while we were out and about doing a few errands real quickly. Dh carried her through a store and she slept the whole time, and even went right back to sleep after we put her back in the car. Well, she ended up sleeping until after 7ish. I knew she would probably stay awake for a while, and that was ok. I was able to get her to sleep and in her crib around 10ish, but she was very restless. We had been giving her Tylenol for her fever, which we don't normally do because we know that fevers can be good, but this cold is very achy and we wanted her to sleep. Well, the doc said to give her some Benedryl, so we did that instead of the Tylenol last night. She did end up spitting half of the dose out, but I thought it helped her go to sleep anyways. I had JUST gone to bed after coming and nursing her back to sleep around midnight, when she woke up AGAIN. I tried for an hour to get her back to sleep, finally I asked Dh to get up with her for an hour so I could get SOME sleep. I woke up to them in the other room an hour later, so I got up with her again. (Dh had to work at 7am) Well, my beautiful little girl decided that she didn't want to go to bed AT ALL last night. I tried to wear her out, nurse her to sleep, EVERYHTING, so finally around 5 am, and my 1 hour of sleep in 24 hours I just had to put her in her crib, crying, coughing, and not very happy. We have no problem with the CIO, but it's hard to let her do that with DH waking up so early. Anyways, by the grace of the Lord she fell asleep.
I was hoping she would sleep for some time since she was up all night, NO.....girl was up no later than 8am!! UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. WIDE AWAKE! And has been ever since. I was able to nurse her to sleep once about 20 min ago, but she woke up right after I put her in her crib and the CIO thing hasn't worked so far. I think I am about to pass out from lack of sleep. Not only am I 8 months pg, but I have the cold too, and haven't slept much this past week. I can offically say I am exhausted and ready to run away...ok not really run away.

Anyways, is this normal behavior for a toddler when they are sick? Has an alien come and taken my daughter away and replaced her with an energizer bunny?

Hopefully my Dh will be home in an hour or so and I can take a nap....I may explode if I don't get one!

Please pray for compassion and grace with my DD. My fuse is very very short right now, and I don't want my moodiness to be taken out on her....

Thank you!!
Amber

Praying for you Amber and your family. I have a toddler too, and she has never liked to sleep, so I know how you are feeling. I will be praying for both of you to get well!

I am so sorry! Why do they always get sick when we dont feel good either? :) Somtimes tylenol and Benadryl can make a kid hyper rather than calming them down. Ours were ok with it but I know some who it made even worse. Maybe a child's Motrin would work better or some of the baby cough medicines. Once they get over tired they get even more hyper and less likely to sleep. Try a hot bath for her and let her splash for awhile. That would work a lot for us. It also helps the congestion, etc. Praying for you to get some rest.

Thank you! She finally went down for a nap around 3pm yesterday. I thought when we first woke up that she had slept until 6pm, but it was only 4:30....LOL!
Dh as home by then, and we all hung out til she went to sleep and kept waking up, so Dh took her and let me sleep. I slet 4 wonderful hours, then she woke back up. (Dh had gotten her to sleep a few hours before!) I took her downstairs for a while, gave her some water and more meds and nursed her. She fell alseep, but when I tried to put her in her bed...same story, she woke up, so I layed down on the futon in her room with her, and she slept maybe an hour. From then on she woke up on and off very confused, so Dh finally took her downstairs again so I could get more sleep. He got her to sleep sometime this am, and we both slept until about 11ish. She seems to feel better today, and her fever hasn't come back, so totally PRAISE the Lord for that! I feel refreshed, even with broken sleep! My sinuses are starting to clear out a bit, so I feel like I am on the path to recovery! :D

Dh is getting sick I think, and I can just picture him staying home from work and sleeping all day. I know as a woman it's my job to be here with my sick baby when I am sick, but I feel so jealous that he will probably be able to rest when he is sick.....but I want what's best for him, so I will try and bring these feelings before the Lord. He can take them away!

Blessings,
Amber

I know what you mean about our husbands being able to sleep when they don't feel good. My 8 month and I are both getting over ear infections..so I hven't had much sleep either. It's hard sometimes to let go of the resentment that can build towards our husbands, but bringing it before the Lord is the only thing that will give us hope. It'sgood to hear you are both feeling better. And I know that through Him and Him only will you find the strength to continue being the mother AND wife he calls us to be!

thank you for your encouraging words!
Last night was the WORST! Dd was up until 6:30am. We just need to do some hardcore training. Since I got sick and she got sick, we have been way too lax with her, and we see the outcome that has produced. She is actually sleeping well tonight, I think she had such little sleep lately that it finally caught up with her, but we have to train her to sleep better.
All I can say is...our bad!!

It's so hard when you realize how your actions have made your child into a bit of a brat. I told Dh tonight, I love our daughter SOOOOOOOOO much, but seeing her with another child her age really showed me how far we let things get out of hand. These past two weeks have produced an unfavorable attitude in our child. So now we have to work really hard to retrain her. Thank the Lord he is so mercyful and graceful and will help us with this. I couldn't do it without him!!

Aww, I remember those days! Timmy hardly ever slept through the night until he was 2! And when he was sick was the worst! If he has a stuffy nose at all it frustrates him to the point he'll try to breathe and end up crying and making his nose run worse! Poor thing, it's so tough when they're sick. I really do feel for you, because going without sleep is horrible. I used to wonder if I'd just pass out from lack of sleep while washing the dishes or somehting.

LOL about passing out doing dishes. I almost fell asleep one day standing up....haahaa!

Last night was awesome! The Lord took great mercy on me. It's now almost 11am, and Dd is still asleep. I woke up and ran to look and make sure she was still alive.....she has never slept this long. I think I woke up once earlier and heard her but fell back asleep, so she may have been awake and got bored and decided to nap again. We did wake up around 6am, she was coughing so badly I wanted to give her some water, but I had NO problems putting her back to bed....just amazing!

Praise the LORD! We did sleep training the last three nights. First night it took a little while and four spanks for her to lay down in her crib, second night she laid down with only one very small spank, and tonight she laid down right away without any spanks! Praise the Lord! He has given us all such grace with this. Dd is sleeping so much better too. We pretty much figured out that her sleep problem was more of the will of a stubborn child than that of an insomniac. Yes, when she was sick it was more of a sick issue, but it became a will issue. We thank the Lord for the wisdom he gave us in this and how to handle it. I sought wise counsel with friends also who went through this, and the support was so helpful! Dd is much happier now too! I pray this continues for her, sleep is just so darn important!

Blessings,
Amber

I'm soooo glad you were able to get some sleep. Don't you feel like a different person??!??

My ds was so cranky yesterday and threw so many fits. I wasn't sure if it was because of his tooth or a cold or what. Well, now I know...he has a cold. Sneezing and nonstop runny nose. Sad. My dh and I are going away overnight for our anniversary, and my sister is coming to watch him. I just hope it doesn't develop into...THE DREADED EAR INFECTION....

He has been good today. But the real reason I'm writing is because...I got my "friend" last p.m./early a.m. -- and everyone KNOWS how tired we get at that time -- and for some UNKNOWN, STRANGE reason, Jack decided to SLEEP IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 7:45 a.m.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was one happy girl. SLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP
