View Full Version : Girl name ideas?
gamommyto4girls 03-08-2007, 03:40 PM So, although I'm thrilled to be having another girl my "boy" name list was much longer (especially since this is girl#4) :) Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for a relatively short, preferrably somehow Biblically related, girls name?
We'd like it to blend with our other girls: Sarah, Cassie, and Paige. As you can see- all pretty short. We're lucky in that we have one of those easy last names where most everything works well.
Right now we're thinking "Zoe" or "Hannah"- both have some Bible connection. This is really silly but I think it bothers me that both bring to mind very different images to me. What do you ladies think? We're very open to other suggestions too. Neither one of these seems to be "the name".
RhysMom 03-08-2007, 03:54 PM Some friends of mine named their daughter Damaris. It is only mentioned once in the bible but they fell in love with the name. I would have chosen the name Sarah, as I think that is one of the best names around... ...but it seems that you already have a Sarah. Great thinking!
Sara
pioneerchristianmomof3 03-08-2007, 04:03 PM I have an index of Proper Names found in Scripture, in my concordance. Here are some names I found:
Ami- the feminine of Amon- it means faithful
Anna-means grace
Ariel-lion of God
Eden-pleasantness
:D
pioneerchristianmomof3 03-08-2007, 04:05 PM Here is a website of Biblical bay names with meanings. :D Good luck!

kanaclark 03-08-2007, 04:44 PM Well, my ds, Gabe suggests Kilee that spelling b/c Kyli and Kiley and Kylie aren't spelled the way they sound.
My sister's little girl's name is Kiley and it took forever to convince gabe of how it was spelled, LOL
some others I like, though not biblical
Emalee
Charlee (pronouced Sharlee)
Kianna (pronounced Key Ah Na)
Nickilah (Nick Uh La)
Evianna (Evie Ah Na)
Marianna
Anna Ruth (first and middle, but used as ONE name)
hth

You know Breezy, I must say that you've got some pretty darn good taste
I like Eden too. Both DH and I like that one. If this child I'm carrying is a girl than her name is gonna be Lydia. She was one of the first converts of Paul. Lydia means from Lydia which I don't like but I saw somewhere else that it said the meaning was "beauty" which ofcourse I like. I will try to think of more names for you.
ChelleFish 03-08-2007, 05:38 PM Hannah is what we were going to name a girl if we had one...
irishmum2boys 03-08-2007, 10:02 PM I actually really like the name Zoe. It is Greek for" Life", when I was pregnant with my first child I really liked Zoe Elizabeth b/c Elizabeth means 'consecrated to God". So Zoe ELizabeth would mean Life consecrated to God.
Anyway after all of that here are some of my other suggestions that would go well with your other girls names! Whatever you chose will be just right for your little one :)
Happy name picking, it is so fun!
Chloe
Miriam
Naomi
Rachel
Rebekah
Joanna
Leah
Moriah
Phoebe
Lois

I also liked Tirzah & Arianna when I was pregnant!
Madre 03-09-2007, 07:40 AM A few ideas:

Bethany
Elisabeth (Beth)
Mary
Martha

I LOVE the name Hannah but dh doesn't like it. I also really like Abigale, and Ruth.
we had a hard time with girl names w/ #1. We settled on her birth stone-she was born in May so her name is Emerald we call her Emme for short (mil came up with that=). It just seemed to fit. My sister who had a girl 4 months after we did named her Amber so, they are so dubed, "the family jewels" and that they are. You could go with the name of the month, the birth stone, or the birth flower (may's was Lily- of the valley- which I loved but, dh didn't). Just a thought. I'll pray that you find that "it" name as I know how much I wanted that for us. Emerald didn't quite fit perfectly, with me but, Emme for short was PERFECT and I like that her real name is soooooo unique. by the way she was either due in the end of may or beginning of june so her middle name is June=) -ren

Timmys mom 03-16-2007, 09:48 AM I can't think of any that weren't mentioned, my original thought was Lydia though because I think that name is so beautiful! I also love Chloe, Rachel, Rebekah, and Zoe though.
weedlewub 03-16-2007, 01:09 PM I love the name Evelyn (call her Eve), however my husband's name is Adam, so I think it would be strange to have an Adam and Eve in the house. I love the name though.
irishmum2boys 03-17-2007, 08:28 PM ANother one I just thought of was Charis or Charissa
Godzgirl 03-17-2007, 10:53 PM I love Hannah (that's my daughter's name by the way) So i may be bias but i do think it's a beautiful name and her middle name is Elizabeth. I picked biblical names for my kids and i love the name Hannah because i like the story about Hannah and what the name means: mercy, prayer, and grace. I also do like the name Rebekah.

gamommyto4girls 03-22-2007, 07:30 PM And the winner is...
Zoe Antoinette!!! We think it will blend well with the others and with the middle name we wanted (DH's meme who went home to the Lord at Christmas time). We both loved her to pieces and this is the first great grandchild she won't meet. Hannah was a close second. Thanks for all of your wonderful suggestions!
Beth
That is a really beautiful name! Good choice!
Jens2Boys 03-23-2007, 11:06 AM My fav girl name ever is Trinity. I also love the meaning, it stands for the Holy Trinity. :D

yay! could choice!
the other day I was riding through town and two of the signs outside stores had words in them that wuld make good names. That is another creative way to find names and a neat story for your kids to share. I have a neat story about my name. . .My mom wanted to name me galidrial (from Lord of the rings-not chrsitians). her mom threatened to call me gidget (which I think is cute) and that made my mom cringe. So, they named me after my dad's x-girlfriend who he almost married istead of my mom. That's how I got Renee and then they gave me Joy for a middle name. The name Renee means Re-born in french. So, my name means "Re-born Joy". Being saved at 20 years old, I really appreciated being named for my dad's x-girl friend=) -ren
