Does anyone have any experience with their little one taking medication and it affecting their potty habits? My 3.5 year old has been potty trained since 2 and since he's been taking amoxicillan for a recent ear infection, he's been having accidents... just pee, but it's so weird cause he never has accidents! I don't know if I should be firm with him about going to the bathroom or let it go until he's done with his medication... which is about 6 more days![whatwacko]

BTW: He will stand there while he's peeing and says, "pee pee"... *sigh*

nope about the medications BUT I would say he is normal, all 3 of my boys that I have potty trained so far were completely potty trained at 26mos(2ys 2mos) and I mean completely by no accidents at all but around 3.5 to 4yrs they would go through this phase where all of a sudden they started having pee pee accidents, at first I would question find out and see if maybe there was a reason(something bothering them etc) and normally it wasnt so I started getting on to them because they did know better and eventually the phase would pass, but I got on to them for doing it becuase I didnt want them to think it was okay and therefore this progress further yk? BUT I would make sure FIRST that there isnt anything else bothering him, maybe a change? a new bed? sleeping in the room by himself? maybe jealousy of giving little brother more attention, I mean it can really be anything, like if he is in pre k or daycare, it could be maybe a new worker there, or a new child enrolled, so I would make sure its not anything like that before you decide its a silly phase they go through :)

I would also agree it could simply be a coincidental, typical regression. Amox does cause the belly to get a little messed up, so I wouldn't be surprised by bm accidents. But you said this is just pee. I'm not familiar with such a thing there.

I'm going with coincidental, unrelated relapse. Try not to sweat it, they just do this. Some more than others. Some bypass the stage all together. But it is quite common in potty training.

My little guy (not quite 3 and a half) rarely has accidents, but tends to have them when he's not feeling well. I've always thought it had to do with the bug he had--you know, like when you've got a cold and it seems like you have to go to the bathroom all the time? It seems to me like he experiences the same thing, just doesn't make it to the bathroom or feel up to getting there. Also, have you increased his fluid intake at all with the infection or the antibiotic? That could be a factor. Anyway, when this has happened I've scolded him a little but never had to make too big of a deal about it. It's never been a lasting thing.
