I know I've talked about this before but now I'm looking for specifics. My eldest is getting past some of the preschool stuff and would like to start watching things like Scooby Doo and Tom and Jerry. From what I've read and seen the 70's Scooby Doo's are better than todays. He was watching one at my parents home because they have cable and we changed the channel. It was just too much.

I looked at a couple of Tom and Jerry ones yesterday at Wal-Mart but was hesitant to buy. Do any of you ladies have these particular cartoons? I wish there was a Christian website that rated these types of things. TIA!

Hi! I've got some experience because I grew up watching those cartoons! Scooby Doo never got into - thought it was stupid with all the ghosts and junk (even in the 70-80's). But Tom & Jerry I liked alot - funny with pranks and some hairsplitting and headbanging - but didn't find it all objectionable. The OLDER Tom & Jerry's are good - just like the Bugs Bunny era. But, I did pick up a "new" Tom & Jerry and those are no good - they are overplayed (like they are trying to be funny, but stupid instead) and obnoxious! That's my opinion - hope you like it. :-D

dont like any of the new tom and jerry or the new looney tunes, but we do watch the very old tom and jerry and very old looney tunes, some of them are kind of violent because it was before they banned the smoking in cartoons and gun violence (you know elmer fudd hunting wabbit bugs bunny) I dont like scooby doo because of the ghosts even though they all turn out to be someone dressed up my boys always found it to be scarey, so we never watched it, we also like the old mickey mouse and donald duck and goofy, we have those ones, I do not like the new donald duck or goofy, we have the old complete goofy collections (1950+) and they watch them all the time, and we have a volume of chip n dale(which they love), vol of mickey mouse, vol of donald duck(they come in volumes I believe 1-6 but its the old ones, ones I remember watching when I was a kid) they also have good christian cartoons such as veggie tales, hermie and friends, auto b good, they have one I found the other day called angel wars looked more for older kids(7ish) but was waiting for lifeway to have a sale before I bought it just in case its a no count show yk? but check out your local christian store you will be surprised they have a lot of good animated christian cartoons out :)

We've found it better to stick with the older cartoons. If you have Netflix, they have a great selection of the older cartoons we watched growing up. They are a lot more wholesome than the new age ones. We generally do not let our kids watch a lot of tv and when we do it is a treat. If we just aren't sure about it, we either preview it ourselves or do not get it. www.pluggedin.com is great Christian website that now offers reviews for television shows. It may not have many cartoon reviews but you might find it helpful. :)

Thanks so much ladies! He does watch Veggie Tales and we have a Hoop Dogz DVD. He's not opposed to watching preschool stuff. Right now both boys are really into the PBS show Wild Kratts.

Thanks for the website Becca!
