Hi all,
I have a 9 year old daughter. She is beautiful, smart, and normally pretty great.... but....... there are times when I swear she is a teenager with her "passive/aggressive" attitude.
It sometimes makes me crazy! Do you have any hints for how to handle a young girl that decides to cope a major attitude at her mom because she has to do homework... or something similar? I have tried a few things, seems like I don't have the method down yet.
Please help!
Thanks,
Tami

It could very well be she is experiencing some fluctuations in her hormones. What have you tried with her so far?

I've cut my daughter some slack for her hormonal moodiness, but she isn't allowed to be disrespectful or disobey.

OH, I hope it doesn't start that early! My 6yo is just learning attitude, so we go through the "that's not the way you can speak to me" conversation a lot these days. Sometimes just telling them taht it is not ok to talk to me like that helps her to think about her tone/volume.

Good luck, I will pray for you!

Eeep. My son is being disobedient in that he is lying a lot recently. He recently lied and said he and the neighborhood friend were going with his dad for ice cream. I caught them up the street ALONE and they were planning to walk there themselves and made the whole thing up about the dad taking them. The icecream shop was far away and on a busy street.

He lost all privileges! No tv/video games, no friends over, no phone calls, no spending his allowance etc.

I still catch him in 'white lies' all the time too - so exasperating.

My girls do that attitude thing too. I see them trying more to imitate what they see on disney channel.
We have the if-then chart from www.doorposts.net and I make them read the bible verses over and over. It helps but they seem to have lapse in judgments. Now that they are in public school, its more funny to them and happens more often. Wish I could still afford a private school. We are considering homeschooling next year but not sure if I can do it or not.

I hate to disappoint you but yes it starts that early especially for girls. I'm sure it's hormones with your daughter. Mine is 11 and she started about that age as well. She's got all the signs of AF but no actual AF. And it hits the same time of the month mine does. LOL! So we both are hormonal and what is horrible is that she got her stinky attitude from me.

Talk about a slap in the face from God when you hear your daughter and think "My gosh it's me over and over". OUCH!

You should go to the Tween Forum. I posted on attitude and that spanking is all that works for us right now.
