My 3.5yr old has been talking for along time, and NEVER had a stuttering problem, well yesterday my 6yr old came to me and said that there is something wrong with A, he can't get his words out, and it was true he has problems getting the sentence started, once he gets past the first word, he is fine, its just the beginning word of each sentence he has started having a big problem in getting out, it started yesterday and has been all day today, he is my 3rd child andd this is my first time with this, so is this normal? Something he will grow out of? Should I be concerned?

My experience is more with delays and articulation, but I would say to keep an eye on it, which I am sure you are doing obviously :) If you feel he is starting to get frustrated by it or that it is more than a phase I would contact your local Early intervention and have him evaluated for speech, it is free. Sometimes I think when a child's vocabulary is increasing they can go through a stuttering phase too ?

Anyway I hope this helps!

Ah.. I meant to come back to this and reply! Better late then never I guess!
I was just going to say that my 7 year old went through stages where she stuttered.. they came on rather quickly like you described and didn't last too long (like a month or so). This was several years ago.. I can't remember the exact age/ages, maybe 3-4? I think it was like Jayne was saying.. she was increasing her vocabulary or going through a mental growth spurt. Sometimes it seemed like her brain could think faster then her lips could move and she just had to figure out how to pace her self, lol. Anyway, if you do a search you could probably find the old thread where I asked the same thing. Btw, my 7 year old doesn't stutter at all now and hasn't for a long time. :)

we had a speech therapist for ds2, he was tonguetied and had fluid on his ears, which was all fixed when he was 13mos old but he still wasnt talking when he was 2.5yrs old, speech therapist wouldnt do anything for him until he was 3yrs old and then we went to a couple of sessions to learn tongue excercises(since tongue tied is where the thing up under the tongue is too short and they dont have much movement with the tongue but it was fixed and he still acted like it was tied) but we didnt go but maybe a few sessions and I thought it was dumb to pay her to teach my son how to use his tongue so we quit and I took over at home lol so I guess I could give her a call again since my point of the long story above is to say I do know a nice good with kids speech therapist I could call lol
