ok so my youngest has a major aversion to popcorn, it's not just the no thank you I don't like popcorn, if he smells it or sees it, he totally freaks out! It just seems so odd. It almost seems like he is afraid of it? The only reason I can think of for this is he put a kernel in his ear a few years ago and had to have it removed at Urgent care, ever since he will not eat it. The thing is how do I help him not to freak out when others around him are eating it?

LOL.. yes it does it automatically.. too funny.

I have no idea how to help him be less afraid of popcorn. I think if it were me I would just try not to make an issue of it.. I wouldn't keep him from it, but I wouldn't force him to be by it either, I'd just make it a non-chelant type thing. Sorry, I know thats not very helpful.

thanks Ashlee, I have been kind of doing those things, so that is all good confirmation :) It is just so odd, I guess hopefully he will get over it soon, he will probably surprise us all one day and eat popcorn :)

Probably! I really disliked popcorn when I was a kid because the kernels would get stuck in my throat and teeth. I didn't eat popcorn until I was an adult. Now I love popcorn! :D

I am not a big popcorn fan either, I agree wouldn't make a big deal about it or force him, you could show him its no big deal like we always do a little dance when the popcorn is popping my 3yr old thinks this is hilarious and now my 18mos starts to dance when he hears the popcorn pop, my 3yr old absolutley loves popcorn would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner if I let him, we also on family night play games like throw a piece up and catch it in our mouth see how many you can get, and we even try to toss it in the others mouth, its a big hit the boys love it, its not messy as long as they pick the missed piece up as soon as it falls on the ground, I have a bowl for the dirty popcorn, your son might like tossing it in someone elses mouth, he will see its fun then eventually want to try and then get used to smelling and touching it, even though he probably won't eat it for awhile but at least he won't freak out about it, but all else time will pass and he will get over it even if you don't do popcorn games :) oh and crafts are fun too, make a popcorn necklace or glue popcorn on paper, just ideas but like I said I think time will fix the popcorn fears even if you don't do anything :)
