David Wilkerson, founder of Teen Challenge . . . has passed away.

Wilkerson founded Times Square Church in New York City and was the focus of the book and movie The Cross and the Switchblade.

Wilkerson founded Teen Challenge in 1960. The goal of Teen Challenge is to help troubled youth and adults, particularly those with life-controlling problems due to drugs or alcohol.

Over five decades, the Christ-centered Teen Challenge program has consistently shown one of the world’s highest success rates, according to the organization’s website.

...There will be a memorial service at Times Square Church at a date yet to be determined. It will be streamed live to give an opportunity for all to participate.

I was sorry to hear this, Rachel, but glad for his joy. I read The Cross and the Switchblade and saw the film several times. The Lord used that man.

My favorite preacher :( So sad and am quite shocked at his sudden death. But I'm also rejoicing that he is with Jesus now. What an amazing man of God he was and I'm so thankful for sermonindex.net where we can still listen and be challenged by his sermons. Praying for his wife as the reports say she is in hospital in critical condition. I'm just shocked and saddened but at the same time have a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Is it bad that I'm annoyed that the People article keeps calling him Wilkinson? How disrespectful, get his name right!

That's too bad! I've read his books and there is a Teen Challenge program in our area. They do an awesome job of helping people turn their lives around.
