When to test

Just looking for a little advice. Does anyone take a HPT before AF is due? This is my first month charting temps, and I'm seeing a little upward trend as I near the end of 2ww, and I wonder if I should still wait till AF comes (or doesn't) to consider testing. As I read other message boards it seems that many women test several times each cycle. DH is concerned about wasting money on tests. What do you all do?

I always waited until AF was due, but if you want to test before that, you can always just go to the dollar tree and get their tests. For one test at the regular store, you can get 12 at the dollar tree, so you are not really wasting money! :D

Many times your temp can go up right before the plummet before AF comes, so that's why I would wait...AF and pg symptoms seem to be so alike, and I had many cycles where my temps would rise then drop like crazy.

I would wait until I was atleast 2 or 3 days late to test. Even though some tests claim to be able to tell you earlier, I have had friends that tested too soon and didn't think they were pregnant and they really were.

After 33 cycles of charting, on the cycle I got my first ever BFP,
I tested 11 days past ovulation and was blessed with a BFP.

either way, I always waited until a couple of days after AF due though too for a clear and accurate read

I was a habitual tester...I would test around day 10, and then a few days latter (usually the day before AF would show) I don't recomend that but I was too impatient. My dh didn't like me testing so much either. I did finally get my bfp on 10dpo. However it was faint and I then went and bought a more expensive digital. Anyways..i say wait as long as you can. every month while ttc I swore this was it...except when I got pg.

With the m/c and this pg, I tested about 13DPO and received a BFP. That was 1-2 days before AF was due, but I had 2 things that were the same both times that tipped me off that this was it. I didn't want to test too much, so I kept it at that. I've only tested a total of 3 different times. Those 2 and once early on in ttc when I was a couple days late. We didn't want the disappointment of seeing no line.
