Well, I guess the title of this thread pretty much sums it up. I am helping to host a baby shower for one of DH's co-workers and she is gluten free. I have absolutely no clue where to begin!

First of all, I have never cooked/baked anything gluten free. Second, I don't decorate cakes...sorry gals! I am the person who phones an order into the local bakery for these types of occasions. She is having a baby girl but she cannot stand anything pink or girly. I figure I will make my way down to Michaels or Party City and see what sort of cake pans they have but if anyone has ideas for something cute and simple that I can use that would be great.

Recipies would be greatly appreciated to include frosting recipies. The party is in early March so I have some time to get things in order but I just need to find a place to start.

Thanks!
Sara

Hi Sara! Betty Crocker makes a wonderful cake mix (in devil's food and yellow) for gluten-free sensitivity. We have a couple of relatives like that. They are pretty good and delicious (for sure found at Walmart)! Not sure on the frosting (haven't seen anything special for that). It's nice and easy and there ya go! :-D

That was what I was going to suggest too. Nice and simple and you don't have to buy all the flour and xanthan gum separately which can be very costly.

As far as frosting, just google for a recipe and then make sure that you use all gluten free ingredients. GF is probably the most nit picky diet on the face of the planet, so make sure that even your vanilla is gluten free. (some vanillas are not) If you don't want to go that route, though, there is a prepared GF frosting from Cherrybrook Kitchen. I got some from the discount store for Micah's birthday.

Also, make sure to not bake it at the same time as your regular baked goods, wash your hands, use separate utensils, and a very clean pan. Celiacs can have symptoms with even the slightest amount of gluten.

Haven't tried to Google it first? Maybe Google knows something.

On a positive note
