We're looking into purchasing maybe 2 baby gates. We'd prefer pressure mounted, but just want something safe. I've looked online at BRU for opinions, but it's a little overwhelming. Does anyone have advice? I'd really appreciate for AND against comments.

We have wooden wall mounted gates in our house. They're great! A little pricier, but well worth it. They're mounted on hinges, so they swing just like a door.
I think I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't use the pressure mounts at the tops of stairs... but I could be crazy.
Well as long as you don't get one like ours  It's useless. Abby can just push it over no matter how tight we do it up. All it is is a gate that fits in the doorway and has rubber thingees on the ends to stop it from scratching the paint (but they don't work because the paintwork has been taken off there from them.. from the screws that are inside the rubber stoppers). It tightens in place with black things you turn around until they are tight. I can't think of a word for them LOL
I prefer the one my mother gave me that was her baby gate when we were babies. It's about 27 years old but unfortunately we couldn't use it for long because it broke.
I liked the wall mounted one because once you got it adjusted you were set... the pressure ones were always getting too long or too short for us. Plus, I could do with one hand. That was a key issue for me.

summer infant has extra tall metal pressure mounted gates with extensions (2 extras in the package) for I believe 70.00 at babies r us....we love them! Easy to put together and move...extra sturdy...my two year old climbs gates and can't get ove this one due to the height...about the wait height of me (5'3")...easy one hand slide and lift lock so kids can't get them open! They may slide...but they don't life or vice versa! Keeps 3 and 4 year olds in that have visited too! We chose pressure mounted so it wouldn't hurt our walls or trimwork.

We have your basic run of the mill pressure wooden gate we got at wal-mart for 9.99. It works really well. DD chews on it and uses it to support herself when she stands up. She also likes to throw toys at and over it into the hallway :D The only thing I have against it is I am a bit short...so getting in and out for vacuuming or just hanging out it the playroom with her...can be challenging at times. Especially when I am carrying her. But, other than that I think ours was a good investment and we plan on buying two more from the same company for different areas of the house.
