What are the signs of teething? My ds has been unusally fussy and sticking his fist in his mouth and drooling. Yesterday one of his cheeks turned red and is still red. He is only 3 months old--is it too soon for teething?

Those are all common signs and no, 3 mo is not too early
Around here we use Hyland's teething tablets, Gentle Naturals Homeopathic Teething Liquid by Orajel and my favorite, amber teething necklace!! Link: http://www.threesisterstoys.com/storedetail.asp?item=10000357&ItemName=Amber%20Teething%20Necklace (though you can get it elsewhere, even buy the beads at a bead shop and make your own, as I did, I don't do well with delayed gratification, so didn't want to wait and order online hehe)

The tablets and the liquid seem to ease the pain and inflammation but the teething necklace, by far, controlled the drool. It was nearly immediate! And it was a huge difference. He was going through 3 or 4 outfits a day, just drool! Ick! I got the necklace and the drool almost immediately stopped and he was all around a happy camper. I've 'tested' it too ... I took the necklace off for a day...I was quickly wanting it back, my peaceful baby had vanished. The next day the necklace came back and he was just peachy again.

It also helped immensely when he was sick around thanksgiving. I'm not a new-agey kind of person but I believe in amber! I've seen it.

Thanks, Tara! I went to the website and ordered one already:) I definitly prefer the natural approach rather than giving medicine. Thanks so much for your insight. I will let you know when I see that first little tooth:)

Mine started the whole drooling, chewing fist or whatever else she could get into her mouth at about 2 1/2 going on 3 months. She is now 4 1/2 months and has yet to break one through. So, it can take a long while to get one through, just so you are warned.

I use the Hyland's teething tabs. They are homeopathic and work great for my DD. She hates Orajel and I am not ready to introduce a necklace to her yet, she loves to grab and pull things, anything and I am not ready to have her wear one yet until she is a bit older.

Jill, just train your little one early not to touch the necklace. It is *not* for chewing on. Do not let him play with it, pull it or whatever. At this age he's not *that* likely to grab a hold of it, perhaps by accident. Just pry the necklace from his grip and tell him 'no, no touch' As he gets older he may try to do it more intentionally..again, just tell him 'no touch' and tap his hand to make the connection. :)
Just remember it is NOT a chew toy.

I'm so glad you asked this question. My son is 3 months old and is doing the same thing. I swear my DH and I could feel teeth in his upper gum, but when his pedi. looked, she said we were just feeling the ridge. She said this is normal for this age for them to start chewing their fist and wanting to put everything in their mouth. I still think he may be starting to teethe though.

Hunter also started teething symptoms around 2 to 3 months but his first two only popped last weekend just before the 7 month mark. And believe it or not they came out with little to no forewarning. After, of course, he screamed like crazy for two days straight, but before hand I had no idea that anything was different. I recommend the teething tablets also or a cold wash cloth. You're probably in for a long haul so I would stick with your plan to stay with the natural remedies rather than medicine.

I have wondered if Asher is teething too. I asked the Dr. because there were white spots on his gums...he said he is probably "pre-teething" or "budding" but, an actual tooth may not pop through for months! I feel bad for the little guy! His symptoms were: biting, drooling, and fussiness!!
