View Full Version : Ella, Emalee, or Elleia?
these are the three names that we like for our baby girl. What do you think about changing the spelling of Emily to Emalee? Or made up names like Elleia? I tried to combine Elle and Leia together which mean Bright & heavenly. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I like all of those. I have a friend who named her daughter Emma Lee, so your version would be great too! When I had my son, I didn't pick a name for a couple of days, so you aren't the only one who had a hard time. Good luck in the name search and in case I haven't welcomed you yet, glad to have you here!

I like "Elleia," and you could always call her "Elle" or "Ella" for short.

I like all 3 names! :D
I would say this about Emalee- if you're trying to aim for uniqueness, the spelling is different, but remember that when you yell it across the schoolyard, it's still "Emily." :)
I kinda like Rachel's reasoning on this one. You can sort of have it all! :)

I like Ella, Elle and Emily or Emma Lee. My baby cousin is named Emily, but it is spelled Emilie, which I think is how it is spelled in German - after her great-grandmother, who came here from Germany - I like that spelling also.

Don't be at all embarassed about not having a name for your daughter yet. My husband and I named our children before we got married, lol, but not everyone thinks that far ahead!
True story, too. My cousin's 2nd daughter was named April Diane when she was born. A few weeks later, her father was holding the baby and kept calling her Amber. And she decided that she should have named her Amber, lol. So, they changed her birth certificate for the first time. Then, she decided that she didn't like Amber Diane, so they changed the middle name, too. Poor child! She's got three birth certificates with three different names!
And, oh yeah, I like Ella the best, but I think any of them are good. I just like Ella because I"m a traditionalist!

I grew up with an Emalee :) I like the name and spelling.
I also just like Emma.
Not 'feeling' Elle or Ellia though, sorry. They *look* pretty though.
What about Emalia (spelling of your choice) Emelia Emmalia Emmelia ?? I can't get anything closet to Elle and Leia together. Ellelia just doesn't work for me. So it keeps coming out Em hehe

:)
I rather liked that myself...with the 2 m Emmelia or Emmalia no preference there I guess.
This is funny; my dear friends put two names together too, Anna and Leah: Annalea! I think making a name unique is fun and interesting. There were always TONS of Jennifer's around when I was growing up, and even if you look around this website, there are quite a few of us! I like *different*! Different is good!!
ETA: I loooooooooove Ella! :) (Thinking Ella Fitzgerald here, her voice is amazing)

I like Ella a lot also. I am not one who likes creative spellings of names...especially when people pronounce them wrong the kid's whole life, but I like old fashion names, and many people don't like those.
Our Dd's name is Emma....so that shows you how creative we are! LOL
I like Elleia, if I am saying it right, but again, it's a more modern creative name....so it's not my favorite, for spelling.
I know your daughter will wear her name beautifully...how can a wonderful creation of the Lord not? :D

I hear ya on the whole odd name spelling deal. Hardly anyone has ever spelled my name right. Friends of ours had a daughter just two weeks after us, their little girl shares the same name as ours, but is spelled, Maddissynn. :?
