Just wondering if any of you other pg ladies have any weird or strange cravings? I have this need to chew on ice! I can't even explain why, but needless to say it drives my hubby crazy. Has anyone else experienced this or am I just strange?

hi minniejo -
Craving to chew ice or eating dirt can be a sign of low iron during pregnancy, you might want to tell your doc about that so he can get your iron levels checked. There's a name for that but I don't know what it is... not trying to scare you... just wanting to give you a heads up so if that is the problem, you and your doc can work on a solution. :)

I ate ice the whole time I was pregnant with my 3rd. I didn't have low iron. I just wanted ice!
My weirdest craving though (although I don't think it's weird, everyone else seems to) was with my 2nd. I ate a pickle and cheese sandwich every single day. Sometimes 2. Man, that was some good stuff. I haven't had one since I was pregnant with him and he is 10 now. Maybe I'll make myself one one of these days.

For me it's always oranges. At least it's a healthy craving!

I did have cravings when i was pregnant with my kids, not really strange ones but different ones with each pregnancy. With Hannah i craved sandwiches ( couldn't stand any kind of meat what so ever) and fruit (especially pineapple) and with ethan i craved chocolate and MEAT (hamburgers to be exact). And the funny thing is that i used to not really like hamburgers all that much but now i do after having ethan. LOL! What having kids does to you, i tell ya.

Cheese - What you were thinking of is pica. This is a craving for things that aren't foods. Things like dirt, toothpaste, soap. Ice can be included in this.
Here's a link to what babycenter says:
http://www.babycenter.com/expert/pregnancy/prenatalhealth/1186643.html
This was listed there. "Some women who have iron-deficiency anemia crave ice until the deficiency is cured."
But it could also be nothing, as in what Lori said. I think it would be smart to mention this to your dr/mw just in case. Doesn't hurt to let them know and test your blood.
I haven't craved anything. Only had aversions. Different things at different times. Right now, it's chicken. Can't hardly stomach it. What I would really like is a turkey sandwich though (cold). I won't have one until after Landon is here though because of Listeria. Not long to go though. But it's all worth it.

With my first it was Snickers Blizzards from my local Dairy Queen. I HAD to have one every day...it was bad. And to thin I actually lost weight during that pregnancy amazes me with as many of those I ate.
This pregnancy I have wanted Chinese steamed veggies, lomein and fried rice. What's bad is that I gag on almost everything else. Not really morning sickness anymore, just major food aversion to anything not Chinese. Strange!
Wish my only craving was ice though....I have an ice machine here at work that would be great for that...Hmm...might have to do that today. Thanks for the idea!

When I was pregnant with Maddy I craved lemons, grapefruit....those are the better things....I ALWAYS wanted chocolate, but then again, that was normal!
Subway salads with vinegar and olive oil... weird right? And anything salty, mostly chips. Ugh... I loved anything salty and crunchy, practically lived off it... it was one of the few things that would stay down.
PS
Are you on number seven? Or is your picture a couple of your children and some cousins? Just curious! I'm trying to talk DH into having more kids, we have FOUR! :) ::hugs::

When I was pregnant with Dainyah, I wanted to eat a Snickers bar cut up in cottage cheese. My husband was rather grossed out over that one and wouldn't let me do it in his presence.
I also ate lemons. Man, those were good. I also craved pepperoni hot pockets, pizza of any sort, Mexican food and Minute Maid Limeaid. I still love the limeaid, can't stomach the lemons. Ick.

With ds # 1, Mexican food made me ill (I loved it before pg) and I wanted spaghetti and meatballs allllllllll the time. I used to skip breakfast or have something small like an english muffin before pg, but with Alex I had to have a BIG breakfast every morning. Once I had meatloaf
With ds # 2, my palate is more moody - sometimes I don't even want to look at meat, and other times it is ok. I am fine with Mexican this time, but now Chinese food turns me off. I still love Italian food though, and want Manicotti with meatballs as often as possible :)

the more you write, the more I find we have in common! However, not the whole Snickers deal...ewww...but how weird with the lemons, huh?

I also loved DQ with my dd. I loved sundaes, not blizzards. And of course since I had morning sickness my only request before dd was born was to have pancakes and bacon for supper. I know, weird. Here I was, 7 or so months pregnant, 5 pm at night having a big plate of pancakes. They sure were good though! :)

I am right there with you lemon girls!. I can't get enough, although mine HAVE to be dipped in salt. My friend tease me about "where's the shot of tequella" I think thats my only crave most of mine is aversions too. I can't do mexican, chinese, itallian. Unless it is yogurt or pickles or something like that really can't do it. One night I did have to have dh pick me up some ribs (which I usually don't like) but they gave me heartburn...won't do that again.

With my DD, I cycled through a few different cravings- Taco Supremes from Taco Bell; then steak; then bananas- I used to eat a whole BUNCH of bananas a day. We used to joke that our baby would be born with tough yellow skin from all the bananas.
With my sons, I was more single-minded....all I wanted to eat was anything breakfast-related: waffles, cereal, French toast.

LIMES, I craved limes like crazy and would pour salt over them and suck it off. I think that was the best thing in the world! Still sounds good acutally, but when I was pregnant, I HAD to have it. mmmmm...

I craved ice cream and milkshakes and fruit. And other things at random times. I actually ate a whole box (fixed of course) of mac and cheese by myself after I ate dinner once! lol. Sometimes I was really hungry.
The ice craving is common I think. I hear a lot of people say that. My MIL said that theres more iron in ice then in water it condenses it somehow, and that why people crave ice if they're low on iron. They may also crave red meat for the same reason it's high in iron. But craving those things doesn't neccessarily mean your anemic.
