I just had to write to tell you all that we have had great success with Abigail going potty when I put her hand in warm water. It worked last night when I knew she had to go but just wouldn't let it flow so I thought I would try it again today!
She usually had a pretty good release between 9-10 in her diaper so when 9 am came along we started really watching, she had a little accident but I knew it wasn't all she had and she was drinking more juice as well. Anyway, when she started saying "poop - no poop" I knew she really had to go but didn't want to let it come so I decided to set her on the potty and put her hand in warm water...she loved playing with the water and she was able to relax and let it flow. It worked great. Then WE CELEBRATED!!! [cheer]
I was thinking that she is such a visual learner that maybe we should get a video...does anyone have any suggestions of videos they have used or seen that are really good?

Check the library. We borrowed a Bear in the big blue house video about going potty. I'm quite sure there are plenty of videos out there that are fun for kids and might spark some interest in using the potty. I think the thing that helped us most was a book that we would read while our son sat and tried. We read it other times too.

Wow congratulations, she is younger than my boys ever where to potty train. Great job mommy.
I never used the warm water, but I always turned on the faucet when I bring them into the bathroom to go pee. The sound of the water ALWAYS helped, it worked great every time. I never had a trick for the poopie part though, oh well.
Keep up the great work mom.

Well, we had two great success yesterday but today didn't start off quite as well. She woke up dry so I knew it had to be coming but either I wasn't patient enough with her on the potty or she was holding it till she got off because within minutes she had an accident.
Oh well, we will just keep working at it. The warm water still works but it isn't a sure thing or magic wand type thing. I think the basis of using it is when you know she really has to go but won't relax. I would be open to any other ideas that worked for you guys...I know this is only the beginning of a long journey.

When we were working on potty skills and getting DD to stay on the potty, I would read to her. It worked really well because she would focus on the book and be able to relax and go. Of course, now I've created a monster who thinks I should read everytime she goes potty at home (at least she goes willingly without a book at pre-school and when we're out).
Sometimes I'll hear her in the bathroom "reading" a book to herself when I've told her I couldn't read at that moment. Sometimes she's in there quite a while, but when she's done I usually hear "mom, I went poop" (which is my cue to make sure the wiping gets done properly). LOL!!!
And sometimes she plays with her bath toys while she's sitting there. I think subconsciously she's realized that it helps to have a distraction to get things going. If that makes any sense.
