I can't *wait* for Wyatt to outgrow his free stuff so I can go *pick out* clothes for him. Isn't that terrible? A friend of mine saved ALL her son's stuff from his baby days, and gave it to me when we found out Wyatt was a boy. Well, he's very nearly out of his "new baby" stuff and is going to be needing some new stuff. I'll probably get the bulk of it at WM or kid-to-kid, but I'm SO excited to pick stuff out.

My friend and I had such different taste when it came to baby clothes... I mean, don't get me wrong, I am soooo thankful that she gave us all that, it saved us SOOO much money!! But, you know what I'm getting at right? I get to go into a store and pick out stuff that *Screams* "Wyatt"! :) I can't wait!!!

Did you ever experience a similar situation? I think I bought maybe ONE or two items brand new when he was born, and that's it! Being able to say that is such a blessing, but it's so exciting to get to shop for my *Little Boy*!

I know EXACTLY what you mean!!! I got those free clothes for Blake and I just could hardly wait to pick out my own *flavor* of clothing! Now by the 3rd one no one gives free stuff... but if we had a girl I'm sure they would be pouring in! You're grateful yet so relieved when you can hand it all back... ;)

My SIL saved EVERYTHING from my nephew who is 5 years older then DS and then she had a girl and is not planning on having any more kids so she gave it all to us when DS was born we have at least two large boxes of every size for nb-5 years alot of it was second hand to her so it is at least 8 to 10 years old DH will not let me "waste" money on any thing new when we have all those cloths. With DD there is a family at church who loans us their DD old clothes so not only do I not get to by clothes for my kids ever but I have to make sure nothing happens [whatwacko] to anything she wears. It saves us a ton of money though because around here second hand shops and G-sales are outrageous (2-5 dollars a item for kids things).

I know what you mean. My sister gave me a bunch of boy clothes that she had and I went through them and just cringed because they were not my cup of tea. Thankfully though she told me to take what I wanted and give the rest back and so I did, although she did comment that I gave quite a bit back to her. But fortunately I played it off as they were the wrong season anyway.

I do say I love having clothes given to me but it's not the same as getting to pick out your own and also if I had to give them back when done I would go insane since I'd be afraid of my kids even wearing them. Country kids, great outdoors- doesn't bode well for clothes.

How fun for you to get to pick out clothes for your baby:) We have amazing garage sales out here, so I haven't bought anything *new* BUT I have tons of clothes that I picked up at garage sales! It was so much fun to pick out what *I* like! I got a whole paper bag full of stuff the other day for $6 ... A grocery bag full for less then $5... And some of that still had tags on it. Yeah, I love our WI garage sales:mrgreen:

I understand where you are coming from :) I love to buy my boys clothes, there is just something about dressing them in that outfit you find absolutely adorable

A little spin; does anyone else find that there are always fewer choices of boys clothing than girls? Seems like every store around here has a way bigger girl section.

I agree there is lots more choice in the girls cloths but IMO so much of it is not appropriate even little girls stuff is immodest or has saying or phrases that are inappropriate (I will not have my DD wearing a shirt that declares her a hottie, diva, or sexy baby)

Totally agree with you, Erin! Boys are so much easier to dress! But girls are so *fun* to dress...

Yeah, I'm picky about what I put on my kids. For girls, nothing too short, no phrases like you gals mentioned, and even "rock star" or the worst one (I think), "it IS all about ME!" yikes! And for boys... I don't like the idea of sticking baseball and football stuff on my litte dood... It starts now, and next thing ya know, he thinks he isn't a man if he doesn't like sports. Hub went through that when he was young... He just doesn't like sports, on any level... And he always felt like he was weird because of that. I told him I love the fact that we spend Sunday's together instead of glued to a TV watching some game! :) don't get me wrong, I'm not making a judgement on other people and how they dress their sons, or whether they watch sports or not... This is just our family here. I don't consider sports a sin or anything weird like that. ::snort::

We don't watch many sports here either unless it's college football or basketball. But I think the sports outfits are just cute. I do see what you're saying though, never thought of it like that before.

It does seem like there are more clothes for girls than boys but what is available like everyone said is really sad. Selfish, scantily dressed children just makes me ill. I remember bidding on a lot of girls clothes on ebay and when it got here there was a bratz tee shirt in there and I threw it away. So sad that the message is out there at such a young age to dress a certain way or that you have to be a prissy brat in life. jmo

I definitely don't envy those of you who have to pick through the inappropriate girl clothes, that is one thing that is few and far between when picking out clothes for my boys. I have heard both of my SIL's complain about how hard it is to find appropriate clothes for my nieces at different times. It's a shame those clothes are even made.

Hey Jen....feel free to save those older baby clothes for your new "neighbor" LOL !!! I have literally ONE onesie for Spencer...and that is it. (Yes, I know I am early! he) Poor kid might have to dress in drag until we can get him some clothes...LOL...we have SO many baby girl clothes...even after purging..it's a shame boys can't wear them!

I am there too about the sad state girls clothes are in. Our older DD wears a bikini swimsuit, but it came with a swim teeshirt (PTL) that we require her to wear! We only buy more modest stuff. She must wear shorts under her skirts too because they make skirts so short now too. PTL for skorts!!

Blessings,
Amber

And you don't have to worry about giving them back!
