How often do you nurse your baby and how old are they?

My daughter is 5 1/2 months old. On a low frequency day she nurses maybe 8-10 times. On a high frequency day, maybe 20-24 times.

We sleep together at night so that helps facilitate it without too much sleep loss. :)

My 4 month old eats on average 12-15 times a day. Mind, you that is average. Sometimes she eats like every single hour for a day or two (those days just drag by) for like five minutes at a time, others, she eats eight times or so and she eats longer. Depends on what is happening around us (she is now pulling off to look for sounds and other things of interest) and her mood (we are teething bad right now)

My daughter feeds about 3 hourly during the day at three months old - she could probably go about 4 hours, but the three hourly feeds fit in better with our daily schedule - and I think that she sleeps better during the night when I get 3 hourly feedings during the day. My son was feeding 4 hourly at this age. She does go about 8 hours overnight though.

My 1 yr old currently nurses about every 2 hr through the day ... some days there seems to be very little break between those 2 hours. Meaning, he will nurse for a looooong period of time and it seems he no more gets up and starts playing and he's back on me LOL Other days, he eats for maybe 15 minutes and he's good to go. Then he nurses well at night, before bed. He will drag it out for an hour LOL But then he sleeps from 9:30-ish until 6 or 7 am.

This is about average for my kids. Some have nursed a bit more at this age. And they have all had those 'frequent nursing days' mentioned by others. But, yeah, this has been about average for my gang. Other than the sleeping so long at night. My others at this age were still waking once at night..3am or so, then going back to sleep til 6 or 7ish. At which time we'd start our day and the previously mentioned cycle resumes :D

8 month old - on a hungry day - every other hour OR MORE. on a not so hungry day she will go up to about 4 hours between feeds. So who knows exactly. Anywhere from 6 - 15 times a day. she's unpredictable.

i have noticed on days she eats more solids she will not nurse as frequently. Othertimes if she only eats a few bites she will want to nurse more instead. she usually only eats about 1/8 -1/4 cup solid per day but the other day (lunch & dinner combined) she ate a whole 1/2 cup!! hungry girl! LOL I use my baking measuring cups as little bowls to feed her so I know exactly how much she eats :D

she still wakes up at night to feed too. 2-4 times per night :)

My almost 1 yr old feeds 1 or 2 times a day. She is quite a big solids eater and is not really interested in nursing that much anymore.

Maddy's 7 months and it varies BIG time how often she nurses. She's on solid food now too...so she doesn't nurse for as long each time...but probably around 10-15 times a day...usually lasting around 20-40 minutes. I let her decide when it's time to stop...she's BIG on solid food now too...gosh, before she started having that...I felt like we were still attached! :P

Um... I knew that we were unusual, but, boy howdy are we different from this group!

Tory is almost 9 months old, and she has never been on a schedule or anything like that. Early on, she got hungry about every 2-2.5 hours. Nowadays, she nurses about every 3.5-4 hours. She eat a lot, I know, but she gives me enough of a break between meals that I can actually do things. This may be because she's learned that her sister will only give her so much time with me before she requires some attention.

My Dd is 17 months old, and she still nurses two or three times a day, besides nursing down for her nap and bedtime. Since I am pg, she really doesn't get much but colostrum, but she loves to nurse still.
When she was little, Dd nursed ALL the time I was around ( I had to go back to work at 6 weeks PP) but didn't want ot take my breastmilk by bottle unless she was really hungry. I guess they call that reverse cycling...but I didn't mind!

It's always been consistently 3-4 hours, even until they were a year old. :)

my 4 mo nurses approx every 3-4 hours but sleeps the night through. Depending on when he went down, sometimes I give him a "dream feed" where I nurse him, but don't wake him up, just before I go to sleep. That gets him through the night until 6am.

Austin will be 3 month old next week and he may go 7-8 hrs. during the night, but during the day, it's usually every 2 hours. I just started back to work, so we'll see how that goes.

My 7 month old is on a pretty good schedule. We do an 8:30a.m. feed, an 11a.m. feed (solids at noon), then a feed around 4pm (solids at 5) and a feed just before bed at 7pm. Occasionally he'll wake up around midnight for a night feeding but that is pretty rare. He ususally sleeps 13 hours.

My daughter is 16 months old now and I still nurse her 3-4 times per day. However I remember the days when I thought all I was doing was nursing!! What a blessing to provide our children with the very best nutrients. I didn't start my daughter on any solids until she was 10 months old! Good Luck!
