I didn't start giving solids with my baby now until 6 months she was satisfied with nursing until than, and she had about 4 weeks of step one food and than went right to eating our food mashed up. My sons were on formula and I started them earlier on solids because they never seemed satisfied (at 3 months) and stopped at about 9 months when they decided they liked our food better.

I don't think there is any set age to stop. Some babies don't care for the texture of regular food, or maybe prefer baby food. I would just use babies cues. How old is your baby?

He seems ready and since he seems to eat anything if you feel comfortable I say go for it. It sure will save you a lot of money. But you have to be ready too, just give him your food mashed up before you spice it.

They have wonderful baby food grinders out there. That you just add your food and turn a handle and it pushes it up through a strainer like grate small enough for baby to not choke. Its about the size of a soda can, very small and portable, maybe costs $10.

Good luck in whatever you do

yes, i think by the time the hit the stage 3 foods they're ready. especially if he has a few teeth. my son never liked any of the stage 3 foods! it was straight from stage 2 to our foods. he's 3 1/2 and just recently started liking spaghetti-o's. he still doesn't like mac n cheese, he'd rather have "real" food. it's good for the family though, i'm more likely to cook healthy i guess.
my daughter didn't get teeth till she was 14 months old, so i did a lot of food mashing for her.

I agree with all of the above posts. Every baby is different but when they start getting several teeth, feed them what you eat. My dd loved Cream of Potato soup and in fact she is 4 now and still loves it. That is a quick and good meal for them. My ds loved mashed potatoes--yum, making myself hungry! Stephanie

My ds just stopped eating baby food altogether about 10 mos. He has eaten table food ever since. The dr. says to offer baby food to him if he's having one of those days when he doesn't want to eat anything. Just follow his leads and he will let you know what he wants.

Daniel stopped at about 10mos on all baby food although...he will ONLY eat baby oatmeal and rice ceral at home (he's 21mos)still. I've tried EVERYTHING and he won't give it up! But if we are out at breakfast or Daddy makes breakfast? He eats!  Hmm...should I feel offended that he doesn't like MY breakfast cooking? [rofllol] ~Kerri

We started baby food at 16 weeks and stopped at 1 year. But we did introduce some table foods at 8-9 months. I sometimes buy the Watties Little Kids meals which are for 1-3 year olds. But Abby eats whatever we eat now.

I think I just started giving her things like mashed potatoes, etc. as she got old enough. It just got to the point that she was eating table food with us.

My dd is also 11mos. She had breastmilk exclusively until about 7mos, then I started veggies. I actually buy fresh. I steam, use a blender, scoop into muffin tins, freeze, then pull out and microwave whatever I need each meal. It saves a lot of money and I feel good about it. Now, I just don't blend as much so there's more texture (dd only has 2 teeth). You can boil chicken and blend it too so it's in tiny pieces. Bananas are great when we go out, just mash with a fork. Same with places that have sweet potates. Cut open and serve. :D
