I won't need this info for awhile yet, but I like to think ahead of time. I was thinking that it would be fun to have a thread on good finger foods for babies or easy ready made foods to feed babies that don't require preparation.

Here's a few that I came up with:

1) Cubed tofu
2) Chopped avocado
3) Banana pieces
4) Soy yogurt

Let's hear the ideas!

Oh I gave my kids all kids of finger foods. Cut up peaches, bananas, green beans, cooked carrots, noodles, pears, I give pineapple but be careful a little tougher than other fruits. Crackers. Once the baby has a few teeth and is able to break down solids better is when I started whole foods. Otherwise I stuck to the purees until there wasn't a chance of choking - which is about 10-11 months.

They also great treats for lil' ones called Gerber Puffs.. they melt in their mouths & help them form an idea of solids without the scare of choking. They come in all kinds of flavors. I was a little careful with the berry flavors due to allergies. But they have corn, sweet potato, banana, cherry, apple cinnamon, apple strawberry.. they are great!

Boy did I ramble.. sorry

A lot of these foods I still cut into pieces- depends on the age/readiness of the baby.

Also, a general tip- mushy fruits like bananas/peaches can be hard for babies to pick up- if you roll them in graham cracker or cereal crumbs, it gives a little more texture for those little fingers.

Ravioli (the Gerber toddler ones are great!)

Medium-size pasta shells with cheese or tomato sauce

Scrambled eggs

Cereal bars/yogurt bars

Graham crackers

Cooked sweet potatoes/yams

Stuffing

Toast

Waffles/French toast sticks

Mini muffins

Mashed potatoes rolled into little balls to pick up (add cheese, broccoli, other veggies- a great way to sneak in extra vegetables!)

I know my little girl is a bit.. different, so take what I say with a grain of salt. She absolutely refuses to take anything from a spoon. She will shut her mouth and refuses to open it if I come at her with a spoon, so I've given up for a bit.

I've been a bit shocked and amazed at what she eats. It seems kind of crazy, but I've been feeding her fresh fruits and canned or frozen veggies (chopped up if it's not bite-sized). I make sure that whatever I give her isn't a choking hazard (chopped in tiny pieces), which makes for more work, but it seems to be the only way to get solid food in her. She loves chopped apples, peas, green beans, etc., although she's not too wild about bananas yet. (I only introduced them a few days ago, though.) I, too, love the Gerber Puffs, although she will happily gum away at animal cookies. (Well, the legs of animal cookies, actually )

my son loved his stage 2 baby food peas and he's 1 now and doing great with food chunks so i got a can of peas (low sodium of course) and warmed up about 2 tbsp of them and he loved them. they were soft and mushed really easy in his mouth. we also love the gerber puffs, and cheerios and kix. pre-shreaded cheese and chunks of pear and banana are also favorites.
