Warning - First Time Pregnant & Dental Cleaning

Oh my goodness, I wish someone would have warned me. I went to my dentist today for a cleaning.

The smells, the sounds, the taste was so hypersensitive. If you want a guranteed morning sickness induction, just schedule a dental cleaning in your first trimester, not really.

I'm so sick at my stomach than ever before today. Praying it passes soon.

Just had to share. And for any other first time mommy's-to-be out there, just know your experience at the dentist that you've done hundreds of time may be a brand new experience when you're pregnant or at least in your first trimester.

And I forgot one other thing....I had to update my medical history to include the pregnancy but just know, when you share that with someone who will have you trapped in a chair for an hour with sharp pointy objects, just know you'll hear all about all of her pregnancies and deliveries...oh my, what an experience today at the dentist. :roll:

I also got a cleaning done in my first trimester. I didn't find that it brought on morning sickness. But then again, I didn't have a lot of morning sickness when I was pregnant. (I just ended up with other woes :))

Praying that that sickness passes soon.

I don't mean to offend any hygenist. I apologize if I did. I think the nausau overtook me this morning. I know she was just trying to help me pass the time away this morning with her birth stories.

Little warning on the teeth issue since you are on the topic, your gums may get very tender & bleed more now since you are pregnant than before.

I have severe bone loss now due to both my pregnancies..long story. But really hope you are feeling better.

My dentist was such a trip every time I went in for cleanings while I was pregnant. Good guy!!

Another dental issue that may sneak up on you is gagging when you brush your teeth :cry: I have this now as well as when I was pregnant the first time. It passed with my first one, but so far with this pregnancy it is sticking around :roll:

My friend found the first time she was pregnant she also gagged when brushing her teeth.

About having a cleaning and being at the dentist. Yes, I found my gums quite sore too and bleeding a lot, I found it easy to gag on the cleaning stuff they use too. I had to get some fillings done but they said they would wait until after I had the baby to do those, I can't remember the reason but something to do with the freezing.

Yeah, I just had my first cleaning in over a year to avoid throwing up all over the hygenist while I was pregnant! :lol:

But I was a naughty girl and had mercury fillings when the worst of the all-day sickness had passed. [whatnaughty] I couldn't help it--my supersensitive gums were made even worse by 2 cavities.

I'm waiitng until after the baby comes to go back. I have a bad gag reflex anyways, they've noted it on my charts. Even before I was pg, I gagged while brushing my teeth. So, it's not been fun during the pg. I figured it was better to wait until after the baby is here to even attempt going to the dentist.

Plus, I think getting fillings are fine during your 2nd trimester if they're needed. I remember reading that somewhere.

Yeah, the fillings and dental work are fine in the second and preferably the third trimesters...found out the hard way when I had to have an emergency root canal with my first son in my third trimester....still had to fight not gagging all over the people! I swear, I've never willed myself not to throw up soooo hard! Ugh!
