ok here is a silly question, but how early did you start to show? I am very short (4' 11) and don't have much of a torso, so I know I will pop out since there is no other place for the baby to go. anyways I am 7 weeks and yesterday I noticed my belly was bigger and now today all my pants are too tight and my belly has poped out. I feel like this is way too early and feel just way fat, but I havn't gained any weight since finding out I was pg. SO could I already be showing? I feel a bit redicules wearing maternity clothes but at the same time my pants are too tight. when did you show, and start wearing maternity clothes?
my 2nd pg i knew i was pg almost immediately, cause my tummy seemed bigger.
It is not just the baby, but all the other things that goes with it to prepare your body for the task ahead.
about maternity cloths. They very pricey here, so I would find some bigger cloths that would seem to do the job. and wear that. i think i bought 2 maternity tops & 1 maternity pants. otherwise, some of my knitted tops were loose enough to fit my bump, and i bought some xl pants. (oh, i too am short 1.5m) so i know all that you talking about.
The only thing that got to me in the end was everyone saying "Oh, you look so BIGGGG!"
I finerly got the better of them by asking them if they could hide a 3kg baby + baby bag etc better than this!
they would look at their belly (mostly men, and they know they not THAT thin) go red in the face, and NEVER say a thing about size again! :)
All i can say to you is - you are carring a precious bundle. He/she NEEDS to grow. so don't worry too much about your size. It is reasuring that all is going well. :)

I am 12 weeks right now and started having problems fitting into my pants at about 8 weeks. I'm already overweight, but my waist just seems to have disappeared already. Ugh! Frustrating cause it this point I just look like I'm getting fatter. Oh, well! Go for maternity or stretchy pants! If your tops are still fitting ok, then just wear the pants. That's what I've been doing. Much more comfortable.
Of course, this is all new to me as with my first, I didn't start showing at all until 6 months. I only gained 7 pounds with my first. I packed on about 15 pounds between the date I O'd and the date I finally got BFP with this one. Haven't gained any since then though. Probably gained due to the holidays. But my body sure has rearranged itself a lot!
Best of luck to you!

I know a woman who was way tiny too, and she started showing early, but "showing' doesn't mean it's all baby....our bodies get all bloated from gas, and extra fluids, and more blood flow and when your uterus starts growing it pushes everything out of the way, so even if the uterus is still in the pelvic cavity it could be pushing your "guts" up and out. I know my stomach and intestines seem to stick out more than the baby part...LOL!
Have you tried the rubber band trick yet? It can give you a few extra weeks in your clothes before you have to buy bigger ones!

What's the rubber band trick?

You loop a rubber band over the button, through the button hole and then back around the button. It gives you some more room.
I went to my husband's side of the closet and stole some of his jeans before breaking down and getting maternity. It was winter, and he has flannel lined jeans, and they were oh so comfy. I also stole (maybe borrowed is the better word) and wore his t-shirts and such. That helped to keep from buying too much maternity too soon.
My pants started to fit funny the week I got the BFP. By the time I was nine weeks, my jeans were history. Everything just rearranged itself so fast.

With ds # 1 I started *really* showing around 4-5 mos, but dh and i noticed smaller changes around 2-3. With this pg I felt like I started showing even earlier and my pants got tighter sooner but I guess bec it is the winter it took longer for other people to notice - now people comment on my belly all the time (I am ~6 mos now) :D

Well, you can see from my avantar that I am already showing at around 8 weeks. Granted this is my third so they say you show more with them.
About the maternity clothes, I am already wearing them cuz nothing else fits...but I have a philosophy on that...if you are at a place where you can afford them, I say buy them...there is only one time in a woman's life for maternity, and that is when you are pregnant. I didn't buy many maternity for my first one and what I did have was my old jeans with maternity panels sewn in and large t-shirts, and a few things I got from second hand. Then my second came...I got a pair of maternity jeans and I was amazed at how I felt...both emotionally and physically because they fit so much better. So this time around when I started showing so much, I talked to dh and we got some maternity clothes. Especially since I will be in them for awhile.
Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying to go out and be frivolous, but if you can afford it, I'd say buy some, even if it is from a second hand store...or ask a friend who has been pregnant if they are the same size as you and see if you can "borrow" some of her clothes. There are lots of ways to save but it does something good to your spirits when you get to wear maternity when your pregnant!
I hope I didn't offend anyone...just my personal little thoughts here!

thank you ladies for all your replies, it really made me feel better. I am about 30lbs over weight so I just thought I wouldn't show until later, but I guess it must be something with my body that is adjusting, since I haven't gained any weight so far. I don't look pg right now, just like I have gained a bunch of weight and my pants not fitting me just makes me more upset. I have a little bit of maternity clothes, mostly what was given to me and 2nd hand stores, so I think I will take your advice and just wear the pants and normal shirts since they still fit for the most part. thanks again, I like knowing I am not alone.

I definetly started showing sooner with my second. I believe i was 8-12 weeks when my pants were fighting tight. Compared to my first i was 16-20 weeks when i needed maternity clothes.

I feel for you. I am a little behind you, but am experiencing the same thing. I was extra surprised because I have actually lost a little... but my pants wouldn't tell you that. This past week, it was tough picking out clothes for school, because I didn't know if by the end of the day they'd be uncomfortable, or even worse... unbearable. With my first I didn't show until several months in. I had heard that your body knows better what to do the second, third, fourth, etc... time around, so that you may show sooner and sooner with each.
Even though I have lost a little, I am still short and overweight. The doc actually said -8 pounds would be great at the next appointment in mid-feb. I don't know about that... but I have lost a little.
Like you, I just feel uncomfortable and plain old fat... not worthy of maternity clothes yet... I guess if it continues in this manner, I will go ahead and start wearing them... I just don't feel ready yet.
I also used the rubber band trick - I got the thicker hair elastics from the store, they come in a pack with blues and blacks, perfect! LOL.
In the months after normal clothes didn't fit but before maternity clothes, I wore low rise pants, elastic waist pants.
For maternity clothes, for #1 I had like, 2 shirts and 1 pants and 1 shorts. By the end of my 3rd pregnancy, I had a ton of maternity clothes. You can usually get nice stuff at mom 2 mom sales for a fraction of what you'd buy new. If you can get out and try things on as you get bigger, you'll know what brands fit you best/most comfortable and what size you'll need. Then you can scour eBay, craigslist, freecycle, and mom 2 moms.
I'm 5'6" so I had a bit more room, but if you plan on having children, yeah, you start showing earlier and earlier, so some nice classic pieces of maternity wear would probably be a good purchase.
Good luck!

I started wearing maternity clothes at around 12 weeks. Until you are ready to break down and buy them, some of the stores sell bands that you can wear with your regular pants. You can leave them unbuttoned and put it around the top so that you can be comfortable. They are pretty inexpensive. Good luck.

By around 6-7w, my jean shorts fit really snug. So, they were out the window. But my regular jeans went for a while longer. I still have one pair of regular jeans I can wear only because they were too big for me to start with. My dress pants are still fine so far. I have a couple that I've retired. I have pants with elastic waists, not maternity. I hardly look pg at all. The baby and uterus have pushed everything up and out. That part sticks out more than the baby! I figure once I hit the 3rd tri that he will start to stick out a lot more. Then I will finally look pg.
