I just had my 18 wk U/S and the tech said our little BOY has a small cyst on his brain. Said this is a symptom of Trisomy 18 or 21 issues, however, the baby shows no other symptoms at all. I had the bloodwork screening done, but results haven't come back. Though the tech did not seem real concerned right now, and neither did doc, I am! Anyone else had this happen? Please keep us in your prayers!

Can understand why you are nervous. Sometimes things that "show up" can be nothing. We had a cancer scare over a shadow last year. Hopefully if it was anything, it disappears. Will pray.

I am so sorry you are going through this I know how scarey it can be..
i will definately say prayers for you and the baby.. my cousin kelly had the same exact thing happen at around 19 weeks and they kept and eye on it ..the bubble at the brain stem and it went away in a month her dr. said it happens sometimes they werent really sure why..but she has a healthy happy 8 year old now so sometimes I think every detail gets magnified..I go back on the 26th of this month to have another 2-d sonogram of the baby because they couldnt get a good look at his right valve so they had me all freaked out..but you know what I just had to let it go..I get really worried and make myself sick this time I just prayed for the babies health and I prayed for myself for peace with this..that is what I will pray for you god's peace it helps things along..

Boy do I understand!
When I was pregnant with my son, a routine ultrasound showed choroid plexis cysts(sp?) on his brain. They can be a sign of a chromological defect in the 18th or 21st chromosones. That said, all the research I did and all the specialists I saw said they are very common in male fetuses and usually mean nothing.(they are not sure why the cysts appear where there are no problems) The ultrasounds showed that all his organs were there and in the right places(18th chromosone) and showed no physical signs of downs syndrome.(21st chromosone)
He was born full term and in perfect health. He is now 7 and still healthy. The nurse mid-wife I had said that she wished that the doc's would stop doing routine ultrasounds as she has had many parents with this scare. The cysts are only visible between 17 and 25 weeks.
I am praying that this is the same for you!

Something similar happened to a co-worker of mine - his wife's u/s showed a cyst in the spine that they were concerned was either a sign of a chromosomal issue or that would cause severe developmental issues if it did not go away on its own - PTL it cleared up in utero.

Praying that the cyst clears up on its own [prayer]

i just prayed for your baby and for your peace of mind. this last pregnancy, the trisks test came back positive and they did weekly fetal testing to make sure the baby was fine. turned out that the baby was just a very big boy (easily explained because dh is 6'4"). however, it was very hard to relax and not worry. my doctors recommended that an amniocentesis not be done because it could harm the baby. so, they did the fetal testing. everything turned out fine and baby is very healthy with no problems! praying it turns out the same for you. hang in there!

Know what you are going through. We have had 5 ultrasounds so far to monitor mild fluid on the brain. It is borderline normal, but still cause for anxiety and stress. You just never want to hear of anything remotely problemic for your baby. So, I can definitely relate. Praying for your baby and for your peace and comfort during this time.

I will pray for you. We had this same scare last year with our ds... We were told he had 4 cysts on the brain... and his nuchal skin fold was large. I went through so much stress and worried so much... We had another ultrasound where they decided the nuchal fold was fine but that the cysts were still there...

In the end I just gave it all to God... Hardest thing I ever did in my life... but when I did he just gave me this awesome peace that everything would be fine no matter what the outcome was.... Our ds is 1 yo now and there is absolutly nothing wrong with him!!!
