are staying dry [clapping]....ummmm now what? we are potty trained I would say 99% at home (usually naked from waist down) now what? do I venture out of the house? how do I do that? do I ask him to go in stores? I am pretty clueless on the next step.

Yeeaaah Josh!![clapping] I would try it but take back up! That is what I did with my boys! When we were going through that process I never left and still don't leave the house without extra clean underwear and pants!
I think I just kept asking if they needed to go when we were close to a restroom and would look for cues if they needed to go. You will have some accidents, it seemed in the car seat ithappened more, but I tried to remember to do potty before we left and right when we got somewhere!

That is great, how exciting!

Yeah, exactly what Jayne said. :-D The only one thing I did differently was, by the time my kids got to this stage, they knew not to potty in their 'pull-ups', so I didn't need to bring another set of clothes. If they did have an accident, then they had those pull-ups on when out of the house, so no leaks. I didn't move them over to regular undies full time until they hadn't had an accident of any kind for months.

For some kids, the pull-up thing wouldn't work, I'm guessing. Some kids look at them like diapers and think they can just 'go' anytime. Mine, thankfully, didn't go through that, so they were useful, and one pull-up would last for days, until we threw it away just cuz it wasn't fresh anymore.

But other than that, we did just what Jayne said, having them go potty before we left and when we got places. Keeping track of when they went, and when I knew they'd be needing to go again. Keeping drinks to a minimum when they had to be in the car for very long.

There comes that point for them that they don't want to potty in their undies, and they're more upset when they have an accident than you, by far. They become pretty careful and aware, though procrastination is something they all tried at one time or another.

You can put a pull up on over his spiddy undies that way if he does try to pottie in them he will still be uncomfortable but you won't have a sloping wet kid and carseat.

Cash still wears a pullup at night, atlhough it's been nearly a month since it's been wet in the morning. I guess I would just rather the pullup than the extra laundry. lol. laziness on my part. hehe.

When he was first potty trained, we still wore pullups out in vehicle, shopping, etc. Not on trip to & from school (15 min drive one way) so that was kind of my test for him for awhile. Gradually I just realized he wasn't going to go in them anymore and put him in just undies now except at bedtime.

Congrats to Josh and to Mommy!!!!

Just go for short trips at first. We did great our first trip out, but the second, well, yeah, it wasn't good. Do short, offer stops in the restroom (he has to get used to them anyway). Mine ended up LOVING going in public restrooms for some reason. I don't know why, I find it odd, but whenever we are out now, Dainie always has to go, even if we just went before we left and we went the six blocks over to Wal-Mart. It got to the point where I told her that one store we go to fairly often doesn't have a restroom (it does, but it is up a flight of stairs over the service desk area, and frankly I don't want to haul her and her sister up the stairs as that is even more novel than automatic flush toilets and such).

Keep it up, go for short trips and increase the length of time. If you want to "test" why not take him someplace fun like Petsmart to look at the fish and get him to go there while you are out? (they do have public restrooms. I know, I've been in ours more times than I care to count).

Keep it up! Won't be long now!

Short trips, and offer the potty before you leave and before you leave the store? or wherever you go. To me, the next phase is letting him know there are potties everywhere, so he never needs to use a pullup or diaper again (except at night, that's hard for some kids, especially boys).

update: Josh has been doing SO good. he is in big boy undies/naked all except bedtime. He is even in big boy's AT NAP TIME and NO ACCIDENTS!!! I am so proud of him. He even fights us when we put on a diaper so that is really a big change. thanks for the advise everyone!
