I don't know what else to do! ds (2 1/2) won't stop pulling over his toy sorter during nap time. We spank him, make him help us clean it up and punish him when he won't. we have tried spanking, time outs, taking toys away and nothing changes this behavior. He also has began ripping a part his vaneshian (sp) blinds. this morning I found him playing with his curtain rod in his bed and yesterday he broke the spinny thing to open/close the blinds. He has totally broke most of it. grrrrr. I just don't know what to do about this. I told my dh maybe we should just ignore his toy dumping during the nap since he just wants us to go in there and doesn't care about the spanking he gets. any suggestion?

Is there another place he can go down for naps where you can keep a closer eye on him? Do you close his door at nap time?
We went through this with Scotty and Carissa. It was hard to stay on them when the door was closed. They were obedient whenever I was anywhere around.. but it was those nap times that were a real challenge for them. I believe the combination of boredom, temptation, and short term memory each played a huge part!
My only suggestions would be to be closer-by until he falls asleep. Or, have him nap elsewhere. Or, remove temptations.
I'm all for discipline and consistency, but there are 'some' things where you almost need to more 'be' there to keep them on the right track. This 'might' be one of those situations, Becky. Especially if he doesn't seem to have a problem when you're there reminding him of the rules. He's young. They're very smart, and they can be expected to obey, but sometimes the circumstances are a little too challenging for them. Sometimes.
