Since Rhiana was a baby she doesn't really get sick. She has had her colds, like the sniffles, runny nose and a bit of a fever but nothing more. Today after her nap she started throwing up. She has competely emptied her stomach and has dry heaved a few times. She is really pale and has no energy. We tried to give her a little bit of water and that came back up in no time. I don't really know how to deal with this because it has never happend to her before. I talked to a nurse who said to get to her to sleep and try to give her water. The water is not staying down but sleeping seems to be no problem. I concerned about her sleeping on her back during the night and throwing up and choking. So I made myself a bed on her flour beside her bed so I can help her right away. Does that sound crazy? Does any one have any tips for me to help her get through this?

I'm sorry that she's feeling bad. :( Try giving her 1 tablespoon of water at a time. Smaller amounts sometimes stay down better.

When Payton was sick we had better luck giving him 7-up. It stayed down better, that and a couple soda crackers. Poor thing, hope she gets better soon!:( It makes me so sad to watch little ones throw up.

i've always heard (never experienced) that you need to keep nursing...even if they throw up...it will help keep them hydrated. hmm...you could try pedialyte. they even make it in popsicle form. hugs!

Crystal,
My Rebekah (15 months) is just getting over a stomach bug. It began last Tuesday and has just been miserable for her. Yesterday was the first day she hadn't thrown up (although she had a bit of diarrhea...I can handle that, though). I, too, was nervous laying her down at night. The first night we found her after she had thrown up in the crib. Fortunately, that was the only time it happened at night. I understand how you're feeling. I sure hope you find something that stays down. Rebekah was able to keep small amounts of Pedialyte down. The problem we had was reintroducing regular milk and food. Each time, for over a week, she'd throw them back up. With that said, take it slowly. I'll be praying for y'all. ((HUGS))

Just take it slow and easy. Try Gatorade and give it in small amounts. One tiny sip at a time. Plenty of rest and sleep. Other than that it's just something you have to wait out. The general rule though as they start feeling better is if it's clear it's okay so start with clear foods such as jello and progress to toast before just starting in on solid foods. Now if it turns into a couple days and she is still not holding anything down call your Ped. You don't want her to become dehydrated.

Thanks Everyone! Rhiana is doing better now. She is keeping liquids down and has more energy. Neither one of us slept really good last night so we will both have a nap this afternoon. We have been wondering if it was something she ate. Thanks again!

My mom had thought that is was from being out in the cold, but I haven't heard of that before, but it could have been from the excitment. Now she is more tired then normal and isn't eating as much as she did before but I am not concerned, it will take a few days to be fully back to her normal self. Thanks for asking!
