Can we do a potty training role call? Maybe we can use this thread as a bit of encouragement to our day to day potty training. I am just so happy that my dd is showing interest and actually telling me when she needs to go!! Happy Day!! [dance] :D

Just bought a potty today for my 22 month old. Though I am not optomistic I thought I could give it a try since she is showing signs of training. I heard girls are easier than boys, and my boys were very easy so this should be interesting. Though with my boys it wasn't before 2.5 that they trained.

So I figure hey why not.

i am trying again to potty train my 24 1/2 month old. this is my second time trying with him. he tells me when he wants to use the potty and acts interested. but when he gets on the pot he stares at me and says... "done". kinda frustrating. my daughter went #2 on the potty from 16 months and had the rest down by a little after 2 years. people tell me that boys are harder to potty train, so i'm not really worried. i just bought him some undies... they have the Cars theme (you know, Cars the movie). i'm waiting to spring them on him for encouragement on getting out of diapers! praying it works; that and his sticker chart! Good Grief! My DS is 3. It is not working!! I was determined in the new year, that I would train him. I lasted three days! Every 15 minutes, I would take him to the potty. He would occassionally go..had several accidents, which I was fine with. It was the poopinng TWICE in his pants, right after I took him in the potty. He was not phased by the poop in his pants at all. Grrrr!! I gave up! I gotta get him trained!!! He is a tall boy and looks 4 and a big boy in diapers. He is in size 6...they don't get any bigger!!

Renee...now is the time for your DD...it took my DD two weeks thats it. I started 2 months before she turned 2. she was trained in no time, easy!! I went right to undies, only did pull ups when we went out. She was a dream potty trainer. Go for it!!

I am training 2.

Willie, 4, special needs. No end in sight.

Robert, 22 mo. 70% there. We still wear diapers out because he doesn't talk a whole lot and we barely make it to the potty in time at home sometimes. (he is still having problems getting the undies down, so I have to help him)

We are just beginning the potty training road with ds, almost 2. He acts ready and begs to wear his "bigboys" but it is not quite clicking yet. Today he had an accident right while I was making dinner and regretfully I didn't respond the best so I am guessing that tomorrow I will be facing another set back :(

I just want to put in a plug here for the Baby Bjorn potty. Oh my goodness..that made a world of difference for my little girl. We had some other potty, but the hole was really small and it had the arms that came up on the sides so there was no 'fudging' things for a better fit. And my dd wasn't petite ;) So, it was like she didn't even have any room to get comfy to do her business.

I heard rave reviews about this Bjorn potty, so I checked it out. Niiiice Just a few $ more expensive than the average potty. I bought mine at Babies R Us for $20. It's a simple 'collection pot' that sits inside the molded seat. No lifting a seat or reaching from underneath to fetch a little cup. No small holes on which to sit. No hinges or cracks or crevices to catch nasties. A simple, sleek design.

My daughter hated the other potty. She would not even sit on it anymore. And it was just so much work, so much harder to take her and help her on the big potty each time. At least with the little potty she had some independence, kwim?
But once we got this one, she took right to it.

I'll find a link for ya...

Ok, that's all LOL I promise, I am not a paid spokesperson, just a happy customer.
I wish I had this seat with my other kids, my chunky eldest could have benefited, that's for sure!

I, thankfully, am not training any at this time. My 3 yo is done, has been for quite a while now, then the bebe isn't yet 1 hehe

We're sort of starting, but no pressure. Ds is 22 months, totally understands what the potty is for and even signs when he is going in his diaper. We bought a potty, which he loves to sit on while clothed but HATES to sit on it naked! So I'm thinking its either too cold, too uncomfortable or he's just scared and not ready yet. I think I'm going to buy that Baby Bjorn potty now, it looks way more comfortable! He's a little too short to climb on his without help, so I think this will be better for him...

Well, moms, I think my dd has pooping in the potty down to an art. I am proud to say that I haven't had to change a poopy diaper in over a week now!! (well, not one of hers anyways...still a while off on ds ) [dance]

Now...we are still working on the pee pee thing but we are making progress. She went pee pee on the potty after snack. No problemo. I think it is all in her taking time to go sit down and realizing what it feels like when she needs to go. But she is getting there!!

How is everyone else doing?

Well, Ash is starting to use it more. He went 7 times on Saturday and on Sunday. Although he will not BM on it at the moment. At nighttime when he is supposed to be in bed he often comes out of his room saying he has to go and he does each time, but other than that, he has only said he had to go like once. Unfortunately, messy and wet pants don't seem to bother him.

Ugh... been potty training my two year old, who turns three in April, for about five months now. She is the obstinant child in our family, so it's been *interesting*. You know, I'm starting to think she likes the squishy feeling of pooh in her pants... KWIM? Yuck. Either that, or she just likes to see mom gag when she gets a clean diaper. Did I already say, yuck? changing the nine month old twins is just no big deal, but changing a chunky almost three year old is so different. Feels like i'm changing a teenager, when compared to my teeny twins. ::giggles::

Well, I guess you could say that we are in a potty training slump...AGAIN. Ugh. :( She does really well and then all the sudden she will not sit on the potty. Sometimes she flat out refuses, other times she will sit their for long periods of time, still other times I will find her playing the bathroom instead of going. :( This past weekend alone, we have cleaned up (yes, we made her help) a 1/2 roll of TP that she managed to shred in the bathroom and then after getting in trouble for that...the very next day she put a ton of paper in the toilet! Not to mention her special wet wipes that she wasted. [crytantrum] I am so frustrated. I am really beginning to wonder if she will ever train. Am I the only one with a child who is training after a year!!? What am I doing wrong?

Ok, He's 2 and 9 months already. We've been working on this for a year. We have a 7 year old daughter and 5 year old son. Both potty trained easy. We started training him before we had baby number 4, but now he's 9 months old and the double diapers are making me crazy....not to mention the budget. He seems to be uninterested, just sort of ho hum about it. I've tried candy, stickers, potty seats, full potties, special wipes, underware...you name it. He does prefer to stand to pee and always has...like his brother. But the pooping...UGH! notta, nothing, no way. Anyone have any great ideas? I'm getting a little discuraged.

I am still trying to get it together after the birth of dd (now 3 months ago). I really need to get going with the toilet training for ds (who turns 3 in April). I think he is ready. He has decided that he will do anything to avoid peeing in the bath. Today he told us that he needed to go while he was in the bath, held on for quite a while while we finished washing and drying him, and then peed as soon as he was put on the toilet. I was so proud!!! Especially as I haven't been working on it with him much lately  . So I know that he can feel when he needs to go and that he can hold on for while until we get him to the toilet. He just has to want to do it at other times as well.

My ds is going to be 3 on the 25th and I am just starting toilet training with him. The one thing I learned with my three girls is WAIT UNTIL THEY WANT TO! It goes so much easier and quicker when they want to do it! My first I tried to train around her 2nd birthday because everyone was telling me I should, and it was a NIGHTMARE! She was 4 before she would poop on the toilet.
So with my next, I pretty much told her "You tell mommy when you want to pee on the potty" and put the potty beside the toilet. She played with it and sat on it, and when she finally clued into what it was for, it only took a week and she was completely out of diapers. She was just under 3 by that point, but there was no going back.
Same thing with my third. My mom told her that when she went pee on the toilet 5 times, Grandma would throw her a party with balloons and cake. Four days later, Adyson was pretty much completely trained.
Ethan is at the point where he takes his diaper off and sits on the potty, but so far hasn't peed in it. I just keep the potty out and give him the option to use it. We'll see what happens. I may end up buying a bag of jelly beans (his favourite) as an incentive....

DD is still giving me struggles. Most days she will sit on the potty - no problem. Other days she will fight, kick, and scream. :? I guess that we started training her too early because she is really holding out on us. She will be four in April. I will say this though...she knows how to go to the potty when she has to do #2. She will even go without me asking. It's just the pee pee that is the big issue here.

Yeah, Timmys doing a lot better, he'll always go poopy in the potty now, but he occationally still has pee accidents (like once a week maybe) and he still wears a nighttime diaper. But I can't complain, I'm just happy he's getting there :D

My 23 month old dd has been showing interest in her potty for few weeks now, so I'm considering trying. It's been 12 years since I've done this, so I'm sure I'll need some help also. Good luck to all of you!!!!!

We may be starting our 2 1/2 year old soon. He tells us every time he needs a diaper change.

We are on hold. She doesn't have interest enough quite yet. Plus we have huge changes going on the next month and I have learned from prior experiences big changes=regression much of the time.

So maybe this summer we'll give it another shot. No biggie, it was worth a shot. And as many moms know you just know when they aren't ready.

I'm potty training my twin boys, they are almost three. I have been unsuccessfully potty training them for almost a year (or so it seems). I have just started a new thing that seems to be helping it along. My Mom got the idea from a famous talk show host's website that sounds like Dr. Hill.

I do this several times a day. I use their favorite toy, Elmo, and I get a ziploc bag of water mixed with a little yellow food coloring and i pop a few holes in the top for the pee pee and seperately in the other hand a handful of raisins for the poo poo. I do my best Elmo voice and have Elmo ask the boys if he can use their toilet because he has to go potty. They of course say yes. So Elmo gets on the toilet and I let the pee pee bag drain behind Elmo, then when that is empty, Elmo says he has to go poo poo and I slowly drop the raisins behind Elmo into the toilet. Then we all make a big deal that Elmo peed and pood, everyone high fives Elmo and then the boys help Elmo Flush and we all wave bye bye to the "stuff". And say, Elmo gets a (cookie, piece of candy, special toy, etc).

Then I ask the boys if they want a treat like Elmo got.

I also just stopped putting them in pull-ups and switched to long pants (except at night, still have diapers in bed). Then when they have an accident that I wasn't proactive enough to avoid, I talk to them about it to try to make them more aware of it. I don't scold them for it, I let them help clean it off the floor, and ask them if they like the pee pee on their legs and stuff like that. This is only day two, so I'll let you know.

We are potty training! I started early with DS just like with DD... 18 months. DD trained in 3 days - but DS took months. About 2 weeks ago he just stopped peeing in his pants completely. It was like day and night. I think I must agree with that old adage then when they're ready they're ready! He still wets at night, and I am going to start cutting back his water before bed and waking him up when I go to bed to go to the bathroom.

Good luck to all of us potty trainers!

My DS is almost 3 1/2 and we just finished up our first week of potty training! Woohoo! He is like a previous poster's son, a big boy, was in size 6 diapers, and was nearly impossible with the accidents after trying several times last year. We have another 9-month-old in diapers and just wanted to buy one child diapers, so we went cold turkey last week. My DH just kept telling him, "this is your last pack of diapers then you're going to wear big boy underwear." After a few days he did super. No accidents at night and now none during the day. I'm so relieved, my family all had trained kids before 2-years-old and here was Chase heading towards 4! I didn't really care though (I'd rather clean up after a diaper than three pairs of poopy underwear!).
Each child is different and when the time is right, you just know. We're still a little nervous about shopping trips and long car rides, but it sure beats buying diapers for two! Good luck everyone!

Well, I narrowed our problem down to the potty itself; its one of those 3 in 1 potties. Aside from him being too short to get on all the way by himself, the splash guard squishes his little peeper and the raised edge around the basin seem sreally uncomfortable. He keeps running and getting his potty, but will only sit and pee if he has a diaper on...which kind of defeats the purpose of having a potty  . So I found a much smaller, more "aerodynamic" potty; most of these things are like thrones...definitely not meant for a younger trainer!
