I have read that you are supposed to increase your calories by 300 right from the beginning... but you don't start gaining weight right away, do you? What I read said if you just add a snack in between meals that should take care of it... so wondering what your favorite pregnancy snacks are? Did you have cravings and if so, when?
I just remembered that my husband and I used to eat cream cheese on crackers and we have not done that in a while. Figured now was a good time to get some for a snack! YUM!
TIA... again.
Forget everything you're reading gal. If you eat when you're genuinely hungry, you'll be fine~ :) I *always* lose 5-15 pounds in the beginning and amazingly my *average* pregnancy weight gain has been 15-25 pounds. The most I've EVER gained was about sixty pounds with DD#2. I ate lots of McDonalds and home made chicken and dumplins. ::snort:: But most of them were a 20 pound weight gain. So..... don't freak out if you actually LOSE weight in the beginning... your doctor can better assess what's going on with you but, really... I don't know that I've met too many women who gain in the first trimester and even into the second trimester. My midwives haven't even batted an eyelash at my weight loss in early pregnancy and then minimal weight gain. ::shrugs:: I think what matters *MOST* is WHAT you're eating and if you're keeping your tank from getting empty. :)
My personal favorite pregnancy snack is granola bars or chips and salsa. :) Super healthy, I know. ::snort::

lol... now, you've got me wanting my mom's homemade chicken and dumplings, except she lives 4 hours away. Guess I need to get the recipe...
Oh... and chips and salsa, too, my favorite college snack.
Thanks for the tip. I'm kind of one of "those" who likes to read and would try to "follow all the advice" without knowing any better. That's why I figured I should ask since my first dr appt isn't until next Wed! I just ate lunch a little while ago but am feeling the need for a snack now, but maybe it is all this talk and thought about food... I guess unless nausea sets in, I probably won't lose weight. Waiting for it to start any time, unless I'm blessed to be part of the minority who don't experience it.
My nausea typically didn't start until eight weeks... I think the earliest was six weeks, latest was about eleven weeks. I'd say go ahead and indulge now, because you may spend weeks and weeks being sick... :) Enjoy gal! I hope, for your sake, you DON'T get morning sickness! :)
Ditto what Jen said about eating when you are hungry. That's what I've done too. I do gain weight in 1st tri (the least for this time around from having been sick). I think the most I've gained 1st tri is 10lbs. My average gain is 25-30. Anyway, as for snacks, I love cream cheese and crackers. Sometimes I eat cream cheese and carrot sticks too. :D Lately I've been craving potatoes....lol....for the most part (frequency of snacks and cravings aside) I don't eat much different in terms of *what* I eat than I would *not* pregnant.

Definitely eat when you're hungry... there will be days when NOTHING appeals to you! Unless you're one of the lucky ones, like my MIL who never ever felt nauseous! I like veggies a lot, so I go for veggies & dip or fruit... sometimes chips & salsa... never sweets though! That's a huge turnoff when I'm pregnant!
