If you choose not to immunize, could you tell me how you got to that decision? Thanks!

At first I assumed that we would immunize because "that's just what you do." But then I did some research about it and we decided not to.

Some of our concerns were:
1) Heavy metals in vaccines (aluminum, mercury)
2) Moral concerns (unclean animals used in vaccines, fetal cells, etc.)
3) Adverse side effects from the vaccines ranging from mild to severe

Wow... I'm totally on the to immunize or not to immunize journey myself... my older two kids have been up to date with theirs because again like you said "it's just what you do". But now I'm really really wondering for Ethan... and he's due for his 2 month shots like...... today. It's a hard decision for sure and definitely not doing them is the very unpopular choice. However I'm really not sure about it anymore!

Thanks for all the links, very helpful. My older 4 are all immunized and I never thought twice about it . Evelyn has gotten all her shots too but is due for her 6 month check up and some more shots. All of a sudden I just feel like I need to research this more and make a more educated decision. She was pretty miserable for a few days last time and had a big knot on her leg where she got the shot, I felt so bad for her. I just want to learn all I can and so that I can make the best decision for my baby.

Ok, we don't vax. Here's how we got there.

I had been doing some reading on vaccines while pregnant and was very leary of them to start with from what all I had read (between the metals in them, the toxic chemicals like formaldehyde, and the fact that I found out a lot are made off human fetal stem cells from the 70s and they all are made from the blood [serum is listed as the ingredient] of animals like cows, and a few from other countries are monkey). I got pushed into permitting the Hep B done at birth on the eldest. About two hours after her shot, she got really pale according the the nursery nurses. I thought it was because she was hungry and no one had brought her in to nurse for six hours straight [whatfurious]. I was so tired (day two of mandatory confinement in the hospital) that I slept through myself. The ped. on call that weekend (It was a Sunday morning and were to have been sprung) came in at first and said that she was showing signs of jaundice and that I would have to bring her in Monday morning for a check on it. Then, she comes back in fifteen minutes later and says she isn't releasing my daughter because she had Group B strep and was getting hooked up to antibiotics and had ordered a 48 hour blood culture. No permission asked, given, no paperwork signed (even for the permission for the shot at that point) and my child was effectively held hostage at the hospital. After two days of being on antibiotics for no reason, she was cleared and allowed to come home. Our ped who resumed her care on Monday basically said he had no idea why the other ped jumped the gun on the antibiotics, and my child didn't have a lick of jaundice and didn't appear to have had any to start with. We then at her two month visit went ahead and got two shots as I was feeling pressured into it by the nurses (they wanted to do 4). Same side affect of getting pale and lethargic happened. I had been doing more and more reading during that time and was more and more disgusted on the ingredients in shots and said no more. I didn't get any grief from the ped, but the nurses are horrible when I go in. Our youngest has never gotten a shot other than the vitamin K I tried to get out of at her birth (I am very non-intervention. I do believe that there are occasions where they are mandated, but a lot of times, they don't need them to happen)

When I worked in the infant room of the day care, every time a kid came from a routine visit and had gotten a shot, they got a temp, were miserable and the whole nine yards. I don't think a fever should come from a preventative measure like that. Fever signals that something is wrong and the body is fixing the problem. Also (part of this is because they were in day care), but all the kids were constantly getting sick and getting hauled in to the dr. for sick visits. Not a week went by when I wasn't giving a kid meds for one reason or another in my room.

That said, I pull the religious exemption rule for us as in this state you only have that one and the medical exemption, no philosophical. I honestly think that my kids are healthier for it. Neither of them (3 and nearly 2) have ever had an ear infection, I can count the number of colds on one hand, I've never had to haul them in for a sick visit nor has been on a prescription. When they do get something, it is over very quickly. I think their immune systems respond to natural infections faster. And I believe (like with chicken pox and such) that a natural immunity is better than a forced one. I don't have proof for that, just what I've observed with my own kids.

Hope that is some insight for you. If you have questions, pm me.

I would say to you to research on both sides of the issue and really pray about it and seek God's direction.

I (we) deided not to vax our children any more after I researched the ingredients and side effects as well as the history. (The only cases of Polio in the US now are as a direct result of the vax. Also, Polio cases were on the decline before the vax was introduced due to better hygene, after the vax was given the number of cases actually went up for a few years before it began to go quickly down...there is more, I encourage you to really read up on this)

I am convienced that the rising number of children with autism, ADHD, allergies, obesity, etc...is a direct result of the vax we give them and all the "crap" in our food.

here is my story:
http://www.christian-mommies.com/forumsv4/showthread.php?t=12733

it's taken me a long time to get there.

I will say that if you aren't at peace and want to research it more then I would postpone the immunizations that are due until you have made a decision. It's easier to get them done later if you decide to vaccinate than to get them vaccinated and wish you hadn't.
