DS has a really persistent diaper rash. I switched to disposables and it started clearing up. I put him in a cloth diaper that was just purchased and he was okay, and then put him in one of his normal cloth diapers and the rash started flaring up again.
I'm thinking that it's yeast and that I need to strip my diapers to get rid of it. Any other suggestions for treatment? He's having naked time and I'm applying acidophilous to it. It's red, shiny, a bit oozy, and very persistent. None on his privates, mainly on his butt and the area above his privates.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Oh yucky.
Don't forget to wash the baby bath tub if you use one (or the regular tub), and all the towels he uses. And how do you strip diapers?
And could you put probiotic powder on yourself right before he nurses so he gets some internally? I've heard that can help outside yeast infections. I've never had to try it (thankfully).
When I worked at the day care, we had a boy who would get yeast diaper rashes a lot. His doctor told his mom to get the OTC monostat for women's issues and apply the cream to the rash. If all else fails, you can try that. The boy there would clear up in about a week (however, he had it twice and was treated twice before it finally went away).
Keep the area dry and cool. Naked time is a great idea (besides, then he has nothing rubbing on it and I'm sure he feels better with that alone).
And I hate to suggest it, but maybe you should use disposeables until it is cleared up. It will help avoid reinfection and give you time to strip everything.
Praying for you. Sanity with the extra work, and for the fact that DS is probably not very comfy right now.

Yeah, I am going to use disposables until I get the diapers stripped. When I switched to sposies, he got almost cleared up, and then broke out when I put him back in his regular diapers.
Thanks for the encouragement.

Give him some yogurt. Don't know anything about the diapers though.
My first thought was to strip those diapers girl;) could be a build up of detergent in his normal dipes that is causing the rash.
Crissyanna, the only way I know how to strip diapers is to do a full wash on cold with a full amount of detergent. Than do a full super hot wash with no detergent and keep putting it on rinse until there are no more bubbles in the machine if that makes any sense at all lol. I just stripped my diapers bcuz they were stinkin' of ammonia.
We went through one really bad time with yeast rash when I had both Liam and Fiona in cloth. It spread from one to the other before I figured it out. [whatwacko] Strip the diapers really well. I always give them one last round in the washer when I *think* they are completely stripped just to make sure. You can also super strip them by boiling on the stove, so I'm told. Although personally I would only do that with inserts....not your Fbs.

My son has had yeast/thrush issues since day one. Sposies did not help us much heres what I did that worked
1 Boiled his dipes for 20 minuets (pfs) rinsed them with hot water and white viniger, and dried them on high.
2 Stoped useing any kind of soap in my wipes just water and a little vinigur (stoped the vinigur after the rash cleared up)
3 Let him air dry at every change then applied coconut oil.
4 Stoped useing fleece liners.
His rash still took two week to clear up but it did get better, now a still use just water wipe and apply a home made diaper cream and we have been rash free for a few weeks. HTH

I have used flour and corn starch (browned in the frying pan) in his diaper after doing all the other things (naked time, probiotics etc). Don't know why it works but it does.
