my vacuum cleaner.

Since Micah was a newborn, if he was sleepy but wouldn't sleep when I put him down, I just turned on the vacuum and the noise calmed him down so that he would go to sleep. The extra electricity spent is definitely worth it considering my decrease in mental anguish.

I love it! Just thought that I would share this tip for others.

White noise is a great thing, isn't it? I remember my sister used to go in the bathroom, close the door (lights off) and turn on the fan. It would put hers to sleep in an instant. :D

Yep, gotta love white noise! I used to sit by the running washing mashine with DS or sit in the dark bathroom with the water running!

Yeah, it is great. It is actually on right now. I need to turn it off since he went to sleep!

some where on line my dh found white noise that you can down load and burn to a cd we run that in our room at night or the baby would wake up every time some one else took a breath.

Our kids go to bed at night with some sort of a nature cd. For the longest time it was sounds of the seashore. Right now, it is thunderstorms. They aren't scared of them either, which I think hearing what it sounds like on a regular basis helps. Nor do they normally wake up during one.

My youngest still hates the vacuum cleaner.

When I worked at the day care, we actually had a cassette tape of white noise. One side was a lawn mower, the other a vacuum. Might be worth trying to find one on cd or mp3.

White noise rocks! However...from moment one with BOTH of my boys, if the vaccume turned on (still to this day for the nearly three year old even!) mass fits of hysteria break out! I have to vaccume at night when Jared is home so he can console the kids...STILL! Vaccuming is my least favorite task due to the insanity surrounding it! LOL

We use box-fans in the nursery and toddler's rooms. I agree that white noise is just priceless~ It seems to make *everyone* sleep better! Including me and hub... we have a box-fan in our room too... We point them away from everyone, so you don't get the wind, just the noise. It's great! The cheapie WM fans are what we use and they last a good deal of time too. :)

Wow....where have I been [whatwacko] I'm like lost in this.
So these are sounds that may calm them or even make them sleep :???:
When would we know to use them?
