View Full Version : Appt Monday afternoon
Posting this today because we might go Christmas shopping tomorrow. :D Anyway, just a typical check up. But I'm guessing the dr will want to book my 18wk ultrasound. I've always just had the traditional ultrasounds. With this being my last pregnancy, I'm hoping I can convince him to send me into the city to get either a 3D or 4D ultrasound this time. I think it would be really cool! (Any of you get one??) On another appt related note, I'm anxious to see how I'm measuring...if he even bothers this early...I'm really feeling HUGE!
I want to say my midwife didn't start "measuring" me until much later than 15 weeks, but I certainly *felt* the "two week ahead" measurement before she told me that's how I was measuring! You're probably right about your feeling~ :) I had a 3D with the twins and now with Eliya, and unless the babe is holding REALLY still, it's not very clear. We have a lot of "blurry" pictures of the twins in utero around 32 weeks, nothing you can really make out. If you do wind up getting one, I hope it's nice and clear for you! i can't believe you're already finishing up week 16... wowzers man!!!
Jen, was the 3D worth it for you? Like I said, we'd have to drive into the city to get one. At this point, I just think it would be a neat experience because we've never done one before. I know nothing about them from a 'practical' standpoint.
Tammyn4As 12-14-2009, 12:35 AM We had driven 3 hours to Atlanta for the 4d and Aidan held his hand up infront of his face the whole time! It looked like he was saying no papprazzi! lol You think he knew what he was in for!
mumof3boyz 12-14-2009, 12:51 AM I had the 4D with all 3. It's so worth it!! You can see my video of this last one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkYy-McX_t8
I guess I have an anterior placenta so the little guy was hiding behind it most of the time. I really fell in love with his hand waving though! :)
It depends on *you*, Kim, really. I mean, my sensibility says that it's not worth the trouble since they have to be holding still, the placenta could be in the way, they could cover their faces with their hands and feet, or just be in a position to generally not be viewable. Then the 3D's weren't SUPER duper clear. I dunno. If it were *me*, and I was told I could have one if I drove a good distance and what not... I'd opt out. But... that's just me. I know *LOTS* of women Love them. ::shrugs:: Either way, you'll get to see your little gal/guy! :)
Thanks for everyone's input! I'm not too worried about the drive...it's about 90 minutes and we go to the city at least once a month anyway, so we'd just piggyback whatever we were going to do that month on that trip. I'll let you know what the dr says. Not sure if he'll be open to it or say 'nope....I only send patients to the one in town'. *shrug* I won't be heartbroken either way.
ETA: Margi...neat video! TFS! :D
Just posting an update....
Had a good appt. I haven't gained any weight in the last month, but considering how sick I've been that isn't too surprising. (When talking to the dr about it, he asked if twins ran in the family [rofl] *I doubt it's twins, but I will also say that the conversation of twins has come up in talking about this pregnancy with quite a few people.* )Heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time. [lovesmile] And it seems I'm not really measuring big. *shrug* What do I know? lol
On the subject of ultrasounds, I'll just be getting a 'normal' one. My vague understanding of why I can't get 3D/4D has something to do with it being 'complicated' (according to the dr)....he launched into a long explanation of how those u/s are done at 11-13wks when screening for downs syndrome. (???) Personally, I think it has more to do with the paperwork involved in sending me to the city. While in theory Alberta is "all one health region" now (we used to be divided up), I think that the regions still exist in a practical sense. In any case, I'm a bit disappointed, but not terribly upset.
Israel 12-15-2009, 01:41 AM Hey Kim, I had a 3D & 4D and loved it...imo, was worth it. I went in at 18 weeks and my tech said it was her favorite time to capture baby (around the 17/18 weeks mark). Just in case you decide to do it. :)
So, did he verify that you do *not* have twins in there? We didn't "hear" my twins, we had to "see" them. ::snort:: Wouldn't *that* be something? :) I'm glad you had a good appointment and yeah... I typically lose weight in the first and second trimester due to nausea. Sounds like things are going great! Sorry you won't get your 3D, gal~ :( But at least you'll get to see your little one and find out whether you're carrying a "she or he"! :)
Jen, no he didn't confirm that there are *not* twins in there. That would be something for sure! Now I just have to wait for the hospital to call with my u/s appt....I can't wait!

Oh! That is so exciting!! :-D Hope you get your call soon. One or two [claploud]

I'm not getting too excited about it at this point. I'm not *feeling* like there are two. It's just I've never had it come up so.many.times. while pregnant. Nurses, doctors...even dh and Liam. lol. At this point none of the comments really mean anything. So we'll just wait until the u/s and see.
mumof3boyz 12-15-2009, 02:44 PM My mother-in-law is a twin, my grandma was a twin, I have twin nephews and several twin cousins... so every time I'm pregnant, my doctor keeps an eye on it!! But this time it actually *felt* like it was gonna be twins... I got sick so early & *showed* really early too... After 2 ultrasounds though, it's confirmed ONE baby and I'm so relieved!!!
Margi, I am guessing the twins in your family are fraternal? I'm an identical twin (aka: freak of nature and not hereditary! heehee ;) ) I also happen to have cousins (born 5?? years after me) who are identical twins. Go figure.

I am in the wanting twins camp, but I know if it really happened I would be overwhelmed and excited and a little scared. It is fun to watch and wait with you. Twins or one baby both are a blessing. :-D
mumof3boyz 12-15-2009, 05:09 PM Most are fraternal, but there's a couple identical. I used to think I'd like twins and then I had 2 friends in the community who had twins (2 years apart, one set is 4 now and the other is 2) and I said, "Lord, please don't ever send me through that!" But I know some people handle it better too... :)

I would *love* to have another set of twins. Yes, I know I'm a weirdo. ::snort:: Yes, it was "hard", but no harder, really, than a singleton. A lot of it is your outlook... if you think it's going to stink,... then it will. :) We prayed hard to get our twins, and God blessed us with them, and if we ever had another set, I would count myself doubly blessed again~ ::snort:: Twins are really fun! :)

Love your positive attitude Jen and think it is so wonderful that God answered your prayers. What a neat story. [lovesmile]

That pretty much sums up how I would feel too. Definitely thrilled, but I think I'd be a bit overwhelmed too.
