My 5-year-old DS basically says the same prayer every time we have prayer time. Sometimes I ask him after his prayer if there's anything else he's thankful for or wants to pray about. Usually he says no. Well last night while it was DH's turn to put him to bed he said a totally different prayer and told my DH to tell me about it. I want to know how to encourage him to expand on it? Am I doing something wrong? TIA! [lovesign]

when it's my ds's turn to pray at a meal (he'll be 5 in April) he usually says the same thing every time too. very sweet, meaningful things, but the same thing...so at the end I tell him he needs to think about our day and say something new, just one thing. That usually helps him. :-)

My six year old did that too. Said the same prayer every night. We did the same thing, encouraged him to think of just one thing new to say and soon he was changing up his prayers a bit. I also reminded him that if I said the same thing to him whenever we talked, that he would get bored with it, that God really wants to hear what we have to say and to remember that God is real and listens to us.
