View Full Version : Yeast infection/thrush
Jessy 12-04-2009, 05:15 PM Ok gals, I've been battling a vaginal yeast infection for over a month now, I've taken an oral antibiotic and vaginal suppositories. My doctor has prescribed me another round of vaginal suppositories that I should start tonight. It's just being so persistent, makes me uncomfortable and irritable :( it hurts, etc.
Well, just now I was brushing my teeth and realized white all over my tongue, looks like thrus!
From what I read both are common in pregnancy, particularly during the 2nd trimester, oh the joys! [whatwacko]
Anyone else have this problem?! I have had maybe 2 yeast infections while not pregnant and never had thrush so it's all new to me. Any thoughts?
Well, I know Ruth said that Probiotics are good to help with yeast abundance. Right Ruth? You can find them at whole food stores. I sure am sorry you're having to deal with this right now. Are you GBS+? I know yeast infections are more common if you are. I sure hope you can find some relief ASAP, gal~ ::hugs::
BlessedMommy 12-04-2009, 06:12 PM That strikes me as odd that you got an antibiotic RX for yeast. Antibiotics makes yeast worse generally.
But as Jen said, get on some probiotics. Also cut way back or eliminate refined sugar and even natural sugar until things get under control. Some other good aids are:
1) Oil of Oregano (not the spice in your cupboard)
2) Grapefruit seed extract
Ashlee 12-04-2009, 06:22 PM Stop taking antibiotics! That's what I would do! Yeast infections and thrush are results of antibiotics! I'm really surprised (actually I'm not) your doc would prescribe them to you for a yeast infection. For your vaginal yeast infection you can apply plain yogurt just as you would monistat. For your oral thrush you can eat plain yogurt. Avoid mouth wash too. If it's gotten pretty bad and the yogurt isn't doing the trick there are lots of other natural ways to rid a yeast infection that are way safer for the baby and much more effective then ANTIBIOTICS! :D

Oh, Ashlee, I forgot about the yogurt!!! Good idea, gals!
Jessy 12-04-2009, 09:39 PM I think it was Flagyl that he prescribed?! I've taken it before an it worked great. the Thrush really isn't too bad but I don't want it to get worse. It's just white on my tongue as of now, no lumps, bumps, etc.
Thanks for the ideas ladies!

But the infection came back! You should do a bit of research before going back to your doctor. Antibiotics are over prescribed and really should only be used if there is a serious bacterial infection that won't respond to other remedies. There are so many alternatives out there that are effective and you won't have the problem with reoccurring infections and side effects such as thrush.
I sure hope it clears up quickly and you find something that works for you that is effective and safe! :-D
BlessedMommy 12-04-2009, 10:49 PM I typed that other message in a hurry, so it wasn't exhaustive by any means. Garlic is another excellent anti-yeast food. I've heard that Kyolic Liquid Garlic is particularly good. It helps build up the immune system so that it can fight the yeast.
Ashlee 12-04-2009, 11:05 PM Garlic is something we use around here for almost any infection. (It's great for ear infections) We eat a lot of it during the flu season to keep our immune systems boosted too. Just make sure its fresh and raw! Garlic powder, the stuff minced in a jar, ect won't do! And cooking it will take out the alison (the natural antibiotic). We all love garlic around here though so it's easy for us to incorperate it into our diet. If you don't like garlic you can hide it in salad dressing or marinara sauce so the taste isn't so over powering. And if your worried about bad breath just feed it to everyone in the house and they won't notice!
krazee4jc 12-04-2009, 11:08 PM Aww...Jessy, I'm sure your so uncomfortable, BEEN THERE :(
My doctor gave me cream, worked fine. Sounds like your is being way stubborn
I'll pray it goes away and you get comfort [praying]
savedbygrace 12-05-2009, 02:18 AM Try AZO for yeast infections. I believe it is safe to take while pregnant. I took it while pregnant in my second tri. You take three the first day and one a day after that. And after it clears up you continue to take one a day to keep it from returning. I believe it is all natural, it's cheap, get it at walmart OTC, and it's basically the same stuff that is in yogurt.
YI really are annoying. hope yours clears up soon!
