How many among you have children with tubes in their ears? I am asking because it is looking more and more likely that Daniel will be getting those in the next few weeks. He has had several ear infections this year, almost constant for a few months. When he went to the pediatrician yesterday, the doctor pointed to the diagram on the wall where there were basically 8 or 9 stages of ear infection. He pointed to the next to last picture, and said that's what Daniel's were like right now. :( I didn't like it, but we're trying one more round of antibiotics, and at the end of them (9 days from now) he's going back to the pediatrician. If at that time the infection is still significant, we are going to talk about the tube surgery.

Does he drink cow's milk? I have heard that there could be a link between milk allergy and ear infection. Just a thought--that may not be it at all.

Perhaps one of the other moms can chime in with homeopathic remedies for ear infections. I know that there are a few, but have no experience with them, as ear infections haven't been our particular cross to bear. (we get food allergies and yeast problems instead! lol)

Abigail's on her 2nd set of ear tubes. She had constant ear infection and antibiotics didn't always help. Children with cleft palates are prone to ear infections - which was Abigail's case. They kept giving her medication for infection but it didn't always go away, it was pretty much constant from the time we got her in January 2008 until she had surgery in March 2008. She hasn't had an ear infection since that time.

The reason she's on her 2nd set of tubes is because one came out and the other one wasn't working properly so it had to be removed anyways. I guess last spring (2008) they had designed the tubes differently and a year later were finding out that a lot of the tubes were coming out sooner than they should.

;) He's got a food allergy to strawberries... I hadn't thought about cow's milk. He still drinks whole milk. Does the milk cause it?

I think that it may. Beth (gamommyto4girls) might be able to give you more info. I think that her littlest had chronic ear infections due to milk allergy.

I hadn't thought about the fact that my mother was lactose intolerant... hmm... Her symptoms were nothing like ear infections though...

My son has had ear tubes fitted. When he was about 4. He did get ear infections, but not that regularly, when he did get them they were pretty horrendous, poor guy. He couldnt hear very well and was very shy and quiet around adults, but in a group of kids he was the loudest kid. Thats bc he couldnt hear how loud he was. He also couldnt hear the tv very well and always needed it turned up. In his case it wasnt down to any allergies and he's been fine ever since. It was horrible for him having them fitted tho, he was so nasty just after the surgery, he hated every minute of it. But like I said, he's been fine since then and he's now nine. For Josh it was more a case not passing his hearing tests, not so much to do with ear infections. You might want to discuss with your paediatrician about any dairy allergies and that you might take a few months to investigate that route and if it doesnt help then go the ear tubes route (they're called grommits here, lol).

I might be wrong but sometimes dairy intolerance causes a lot of phlem and cattahr (sp?), which obviously can build up in the ear, nose, and throat in children... Im guessing. I dont know that much about it, but children are more prone to ear infections like that than adults... Im thinking. Anyway, that might just be me being stupid... lol
