Does anybody wear anything like this during labor?

or do you just wear hospital gowns or what not? I'm curious. I have found that I don't like laboring nude... mostly because I just feel uncomfortable naked... but I realllllly don't like hospital gowns/robes either. I like this idea... what do you gals think?

Seems really expensive for what seems like a relatively simple sewing job.... JMO... I wouldn't spend that much on it. I can see how some women would like it. I didn't mind the hospital gown, actually clothing was like the last thing I was worried about... and for some reason I was so freezing cold during both my labors (due to maternal exhaustion), I kept begging them for more blankets, LOL!

You could probably find large, flowy tunic-like things at a thrift store, too... like a huuuuuge oversized t-shirt, or something like that. I mean you wouldn't have bottoms on, but i think it' silly to wear a skirt when, well, you gotta be exposed for baby to come out, LOL

I was thinking more of the concept of it, rather than buying this exactly. I mean, shoot, I don't pay that much for an article of clothing when NOT pregnant, much less on something I would wear for maybe a day while I labor. Yuh..........

I was trying to think if I had anything that would work similarly but.... I think maybe an oversized flannel shirt; button up so that I can have that skin-on-skin with Wyatt when he's born, without having to take something off over my head. When I had Eliya, I wore a spag. strap tank, and while it was nice to have something *cool* on, I wound up having to try to take it off over my head with an IV hooked up and being tired from laboring. So, I want to avoid that, for sure.

I think the point of the skirt is that when I labor, I like to have my bum covered, I dunno, I'm weird like that I guess. but I think the oversized shirt would work, eh?

But yeah... just wondering what other gal's preferences were~

I made something similar for a friend. she has specific clothing requirements, shall we say... lol. I made it for about $15, top and skirt. I got the biggest maternity shirt I could find on clearance, then some jersey for the skirt (doesn't fray so hems are optional) I used velcro and snaps to turn it into nursing and labor friendly.

me I don't care. I'm probably going to get it dirty in a gross way so I just use the gowns. :)

I see your point about hospital gowns, most of the time they are huge, bulky and uncomfortable, not to mention who has the desire/time to figure out all the straps and tie them correctly so that your bum isn't hanging out LOL. I personally don't care for that skirt idea though. Then again I could labor naked and be just fine lol.

When I gave birth at the birthing center they had these awesome gowns, they were 1 piece, no straps, flaps, etc., roomy but not bulky, etc. More like a pull over nightgown top. I loved it, it was just another thing I loved about the birthing center.

Off topic but at the birthing center I went to they didn't do IV's unless necessary, it was SO nice to have that freedom, hopefully you won't have to have one either! :)

I just wore one of my oldest nighties - the type that is like an oversized t-shirt. I could then just hike it up out of the way when it was "action time", lol.

how about a bathing suit skirt without the suit underneath?
I know that on my honeymoon, I had a swimsuit and then a seperate skirt that went over it. I'm sure you could even find one cheap being it's the off season for swim wear.

I just wore a jogbra and an old skirt that I wasn't using. At the very, very end I ended up taking the skirt off and wore a really big towel instead bec the skirt got wet in the pool and wasn't comfortable once I was ready to labor outside of it. It worked out well.

I had to use their gowns (well, felt like I had no choice at the hospital I ended up at due to insurance). But then, I figured that I wouldn't get stuck with the yucky laundry after. I thought the gowns were too scratchy and would have loved something soft. So, why not a huge men's flannel shirt? Try a thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army. Just go and browse, see what might strike your fancy, maybe get an idea for something that you could alter to make it what you want. Then, you aren't out hardly any money if it gets wrecked beyond repair, or you don't want the hassle of trying to salvage it in the wash. Maybe finding something like an old set of flannel sheets and stitching up a skirt, tunic thing would work. Or make it like a split dress/toga thing, then you can just part it for the skin to skin, yet still be covered earlier.

Kids are all up, time to go chaperone them and their grandma.

Now *there's* an idea!!! And that material is so durable and is hard to stain. Hhhmmm... *THANKS*!!
