Ok, so for the longest time after weaning Joey, I still had my milk. Recently it has seemed to "dry" up. not completely but there's just the tiniest drop and that's if I really squeeze.
Is this because my colostrum is filling in instead of milk? I just thought that it was strange for it to dry up so quickly.

where is ruth? I had always thought that because a pregnant mama uses so much energy/calories making a baby that usually your milk will dry up/decrease since your body is putting more energy to create life. I think of it as the "back burner" your body will use the energy where it needs it first and everything else (like the milk you are not using to nures with) comes later if there is anything left...could be due to hormones too.?

Not sure if I'm of the greatest help here, since I nursed straight through pregnancy and didn't wean.

Did you notice at any point your milk turning to colostrum?

It's pretty normal to have pretty much zero engorgement when you wean during pregnancy, IIRC, because your milk isn't that plentiful to begin with.

Esther, I got "milk" and was leaking at around five months and then all of a sudden it dried up completely! Now I can't express ANYTHING... and I've had milk since my first teenage pregnancy! I find this extreeeemely odd. But I'm not all that worried as I can feel my breasts changing every month, getting bigger and my glands swelling, ya know? But it just seems weird that I can't express *anything*. Hhhhmmm.....

yah, me too.
I know that it's "there" but just not coming out the way I thought it would since I already was producing and breastfeeding.

Ruth~ I don't know if it ever turned into colostrum, at one point dh said it had a "different" taste (tmi) but I couldn't tell by texture or color.

I just though how weird because some woman *first time moms* will already be producing and leaking at this stage... so I thought it strange that mine is doing the opposite.

I leaked colostrum at about 7 months with the eldest. I nursed her until I was four months pregnant with the youngest. Dainie self weaned. I had a bit of output after that, and I did engorge a bit, but nothing like when Moriah weaned. I'm still making milk since that too, and that was the middle of June. So, yeah, you could be normal.

It's hormones gal! :-D Your body is gearing up to pop that baby out. You will have to feed your sweet girl, so your body is converting your regular milk to colostrum. It's such a blessing that you had milk for so long. Many women, including myself, lost my milk about a month or two into pregnancy, and it didn't come back until birth. I always had A LOT of colostrum during my pregnancies though, but in the terms of colostrum, it's not plentiful like regular milk. KWIM?
I weaned Em during Mak's pg because I had nursing her through Noah's and didn't want to go through that again (because I didn't have much of anything). I don't think I leaked much if at all with Mak, maybe I did, but when she was born, she was gulping like crazy each time I nursed her before my milk came it. It's all good!
It's just the Lord's wonderful creation! :-D

blessings,
Amber

Esther, I never seemed I'd have milk with any of my kiddos during my precnancy. The milk came filling in as soon as I gave birth [whatwacko]
Rachel, did leak alot months ago! Not as much now though?!
