View Full Version : Advice on tie dying prefolds and covers BlessedMommy 12-31-2006, 08:18 PM I would like to make my CPF's and covers less boring. How do you go about tye dying them? (Yes, I'm officially a diaper junkie. :D ) Rach 01-02-2007, 02:42 PM PUL dyes funky. The polyester doesn't really take the dye (if I am remembering right) so you might want to try that on some scrap first. Prefolds dye really wonderfully. Don't get the one step Rit dyes - they will fade and also bleed onto other things... get the tye-dye kit that comes with the pre-soak solution. It will stay bright and not bleed. You can also use Kool-Aid, but it has to be real wool or real silk. (come from animal). Another option is vegetable dyes, which I've only found online. I did mine in the driveway where the kids don't play :D BlessedMommy 01-02-2007, 05:23 PM That's great! Where do you get the tie dye kit from? (i.e. what section of the store, etc.) BlessedMommy 01-02-2007, 05:32 PM Also, what colors do you recommend? :) davidsmommy 01-02-2007, 07:27 PM [claploud] What a fun idea!!! BlessedMommy 01-03-2007, 06:43 AM My husband was concerned about the tie dye being safe for her skin. Rach 01-03-2007, 07:27 AM in my JoAnn's the dye is by the buttons and ribbon. if you go there you'll want to take a 40% off coupon! with the rit, I can see his concern as it doesn't completely set. With the other one, the dyes are different. I see his concern. Maybe you could check the instructions and ingredients and then take it back if you guys decide not to do it. I have always worn tie dye, and my kids have sensitive butts, and the tie dye prefolds and training pants never bothered them. I never really thought about it until you mentioned it. |
