View Full Version : maternity clothes
I'm definitely needing them now. Bottoms in particular. But now I'm painfully reminded of why I dislike maternity pants so much. And why I always love being able to put on my regular pants *with a belt* post baby. Yank. Tug. Yank again. My dh says that is the clearest indicator of a pregnant woman....how often is she pulling up her pants. [whatwacko] Sheesh. You'd think in four pregnancies I'd finally find something that stays up. But so far I'm still out of luck. Have any of you found one brand/style to stay up better than others?
~Tara~ 11-05-2009, 03:50 PM Nope. Sorry. No help here. I despise the over the belly variety, though they generally do stay up a bit better. I thought the low ride ones, under the belly, would work for me because I REALLY cannot stand the over the belly ones..they make me (even more) nauseous and make me feel like I can't breathe. Weird huh? Anywho...I thought those under belly ones would help all that yet stay up well enough. Eh, not so much. They just give me saggy butt and low crotch so I'm still yankin'.
It really makes ya consider full time skirts/dresses huh?
There must be SOMETHING out there, right?
I know a lot of gals use the Bella band, wonder how far that would get ya and if that would even remedy the matter.
That's all I got to offer girlfriend. That and my commiseration. ;)
(apparently that's my 'word of the week'..I never use that word, yet, it has popped up in my replies at least twice this week LOL)
Madre 11-05-2009, 04:04 PM At the beginning of pregnancy, I always used the rubber band deal to give me some extra room. When I was pg with the older kids, we only had those awful pants with the big stretchy panel. Then they came out with those neat pants that snapped. They were great, until the 8th month. (Does anything fit then? :???:) I honestly don't know what they have out there, Kim, but it's got to be better than what they used to have.
Some of these (http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X5.aspx?DeptID=50434&CatID=51660) look pretty good for jeans.
I'm the same as you, Tara. Can't stand the over the belly ones. Even once the nausea has passed, my belly is so sensitive I can't take it. lol. And I need to be in mat. pants now because of the nausea....I've tried the rubber band deal Madre, but the pressure of regular pants is just not fun for me at this point.
I have a bella band (of sorts...called huggalugs I think! [rofl] ) but they don't help with the problem. The few skirts I have shift around too. So I guess I'll just be a pants/skirt tugger until next spring! I promise I'll try to be discreet! :P
With my shape, and because I'm between sizes, the underbelly seems to be *it* for me. Anything else just slides right down. BUT, I *live* in maternity jogger pants... they are all boot cut, so kinda stylish, and I can wear a top that's form fitting and "cute". Yes, I'm a SAHM, but I don't have to be a haus-frau! :) I dunno... that's just what's worked for me and what *I* find comfortable. But soooo many mom's love the new spandexy long belly (brain dump, can't remember what it's called)... I have a pair of those and can't stand them... they are constantly almost down to my knees. :( Ugh. Hope you can find something that works for you gal!
You know, Jen, I have a pair of capris that are kind of lounge/exercise wear that I *lived* in with pregnancy #3. But it's just too cold for them now. Maybe I should consider investing in something else like that.
As for the spandexy long belly pants ('secret fit' I think it's called)....I actually did buy one pair thinking they'd be better. The soft fabric on top has been okay on my belly, but man oh man....they have got to be one of the WORST for falling down. And because you have to pull from the top for them to stay more than a minute, well, it's just not that graceful to be yanking on those. lol
Jessy 11-05-2009, 11:46 PM I have a pair I bought from Motherhood Maternity when I was pg last time. They are actually over the belly ones, BUT they are made so that they can be folded down to fit under the belly, I LOVE them, the rolling them down helps them fit a little more snug and I have no problem whatsoever keeping those up, they are the only pair I have that don't sag! I did spend quite a bit on them though, which is rare for me but they have been wonderful!
So am I not the only one that can't stand things on my tummy? I thought I was crazy! If something sweeps across my belly I get a sudden wave of nausea, it's strange, was the same with my last pg, so weird!
~Tara~ 11-06-2009, 09:53 AM hehe nope, you're not a freak Jessy. My pg belly is VERY sensitive. Also..around my neck..I swear I always feel like I'm being choked! Anyone else have THAT? I mean really, a standard round neck tee can freak me out at times and I've been known to fight with a gentle v-neck as well. LOL
Madre 11-06-2009, 09:58 AM Yes! I don't wear turtle necks, ever. And, I don't hardly ever wear shoes that tie or tall boots. They bug me big time! [whatwacko]
PianoMama 11-06-2009, 09:59 AM This bothered me when I was preggo too - so not fun to CONSTANTLY pulling up your pants...oy!
Proverbs31student 11-06-2009, 10:28 AM Kim,
When I was pregnant, I lived in either dresses or the jeans/capris with the 'secret fit' panel. For my body shape, they fit beautifully. I occasionally had to tug them up, but it wasn't often. Regular jeans, however, are a different story. If I could only find some that fit. It makes me miss my maternity jeans!

Well, at least I'm not alone in this then! [whatwacko]
Megan....glad to hear the 'secret fit' pants work for some people!
Oh that reminds me (the dresses) I bought a couple cheap sun dresses from WM during the summer, they had that elastic-y top (empire waist, ya know), so I cut the straps off and use them as long, flowy skirts... that is pretty easy on my tummy and they STAY UP! ::snort:: But, yeah, I do a lot of skirts and dresses too, as they are pretty comfy~
savedbygrace 11-07-2009, 12:38 AM ooo good Idea Jen.
I like the secret fit as well.
what i have found to work is if you buy a long tank top and tuck those into your jeans/skirts then it keeps them from sliding as much. I've also rolled down the belly panel, even the ones that sit under the belly.
