When did your baby/babies start walking?

My Abigail is so close. She is standing on her own for a little while and then will fall down. She walks lightning fast around furniture. She got one of those push walkers for Christmas and she just pushes that thing so fast around the living room. So my other question being, how long was it that your baby started walking once they got to this stage?

My son first walked properly around the day he turned 14 months (which is average I think). However, he had been walking a couple of steps at a time for what seemed like ages before this (probably a for a couple of months). We didn't have a walker - so I'm not sure how early he would have been able to do this - but he loved to stand on his surprisingly strong little legs since he was quite young.

My dh and I had a bet, he thought DD would walk before her first bday, and I thought after...I won! He was suppose to do the dishes for a week, but only ended up doing them twice, but those two times were such a blessing! Anyways, DD didn't even crawl until she was 9 months old...and she got her first tooth then too..so she was pretty content where she was until then, but when she got going, she went fast. Then just a few days after her first bday I noticed she pulled herself up and was standing without holding onto anything...and after a few days, she took off and really hasn't stopped since. So I guess it's really more of your child's personality, mine didn't do anything until she could do it all full force right away!!

Enjoy these last few moments of knowing where she is at all time...once they are on their own legs....they are off!!

I put "1 year" because my youngest started standing up on his own and bravely taking steps all shortly after his first birthday. My oldest started walking at 15 months old. I thought she'd never start walked; she really liked mama carrying her around.

My two were very different in how they started walking. Brooke started walking around the furniture and standing unassisted around 10 months and walked at 11 month. Lawson, I thought was going to walk really early because he was pulling himself up on stuff unbeleiveably early and walking around the furniture at 6 months! He didnt start walking until he was 10 months though, which is still pretty early I think but it took him longer to build up that confidence to just let go. When he did start to walk he was a good walker right from the start though.. less falls and stumbles.

Both of my oldest girls were up holding on to things and walking by about 10 months but were not actually walking without holding on until they were 12 months old; so I put one year old in the poll. :) The twins have started at barely nine months pulling up on things and trying to take steps! I'm amazed!

Tory hasn't walked yet, but she's only 7-1/2 months, so I'm not expecting it anytime soon. Audrey, however, walked at around 9-1/2 months. That was very surprising for us. The girl hadn't even crawled when she was 9 months old, started a couple of days after, and then took off walking once she'd figured that out. Tory's already started crawling, but isn't trying to pull herself up or anything yet, so I figure that there'll be a longer time in between the crawling and walking for her. I hope, anyway!

Our house is already baby-proofed, but chasing after *two*? I am so not looking forward to *that*!

My first 2 started walking when they were 9 months old. My youngest (for now) started at 11.5 months.

The little girl I babysit didn't walk until she was 18 months!

I'm surprised reading the ages because mine walked earlier as did my siblings children. It could be because mine have ADHD and were active the entire time their eyes were open. My dd walked in her 7th month and was running around our duplex at 9 months, scaring me because she ran up steps also. My d sons walked at 8 months, each trying to keep up with the older sibling(s). It was difficult to keep track of who was where doing what, when they were so mobile. It still is difficult to keep track of who is where doing what now too though they are now teenagers. LOL

My DS started took his first steps alone two days before his first birthday! We spent the first week he was able to walk on vacation at the beach...by the end of a week walking on the sand and surf with us...he was able to run on steady ground! Yikes! LOL

Since I have 5 who have walked at different ages..I didn't submit a vote ;)

My eldest walked around 1yr .. give or take a month or two
#2 was running full speed ahead at 9 months He went from crawling to running and climbing in less than 2 weeks
#3 was walking right around 1 yr as well, a bit earlier than #1, but later than #2 I do believe
#4 was in that same area ...
Gee, guess I *could* have just entered a vote for 1 yr LOL
Then #5, he's 11mo and still not walking. We thought for sure he was going to be an early walker like #2, but, he's held out. Then he got sick at Thanksgiving, down for 3 weeks. I believe that set him back. Just last week he began to 'pick up where he left off' We can get him to take tiny side steps on his own..maybe 2 at a time. But mostly he insists on holding your fingers and still only takes a side step or two. When you let go, he stands for a few moments, then crouches back down and goes off crawling hehe

Ds didn't walk until 17.5 months! We have no idea why, I guess he was just content with crawling and climbing. I think maybe its because he had such exceptional fine motor skills (he could spin a dime on its side by 10 months) that it just over-powered his gross motor skills :?:

My first was an early walker around 10 months, and my others (4) were all walking before a year, even my premie girl which shocked me.
