I want to first say Praise be to God. What an amazing birth, it was exactly what I dreamt it to be.
Wow that was fast! Short version- pop, gush, head coming, push.....aaahhhh!!! haha
Now for the longer version.
I woke up to contractions at 5:30am and came downstairs to see what would happen. By 6am I was on all 4's moaning through them, they were coming so fast and strong that I thought it might be a good idea to wake up dh. So I went and woke him up, called the maternity unit to let them know I was in labor, called MIL to come watch the kids, and then went upstairs to finish packing my bag. MIL got to the house at 6:50am and I was like "we need to go now as these are coming so fast and they're really strong". They were about 2 or 3 mins apart by this point, I wasn't timing them but if it's any reference I had a contraction in the parking lot of the hosp and one just as we got the door of the matty which isn't that far away. We got up to the matty at 7am and I was checked and was told I was 4cm and waters bulging. They get me all settled into the delivery room at about 7:10am and they started running a bath so that I could try that for pain relief. The bath was full at about 7:30am and I said I would get in after the next contraction. Well the next contraction came and pop, there went my waters. I felt her head come down too so I just shouted "Get the midwife. The head is coming", panicking my dh and my friend Mary who was with us. Midwife came running in and asked "someone tell me what just happened", she probably thought my uterus ruptured or something. So dh said "her waters have broken and she says the head is coming". So they tell me to get on the bed. So I jump up and lean over the back of the bed and grip onto the handles as my body is pushing at this point. The midwife checks me and says "I feel absolutely no cervix, just the head. So do your thing." I was thinking in my head, "no need to tell me that, I'm already doing my thing". I grabbed the gas and air tube but when I grabbed it it broke (which I'm glad it broke) so I used it to bite while pushing. I pushed for 20mins or so before her head came out and then upon the next contraction her body slid out. I didn't tear when her head came out but tore in 4 places when her shoulders emerged. But praise God it wasn't a 3rd degree tear! She was born at 7:56am weighing 8lb 3oz!
I'm still so amazed at such a wonderful birth! It's everything I wanted it to be, well except for it not being in water but there definately wouldn't have been time to get the pool up, heck I didn't even have time to get in the bath tub. It was completely natural and I loved every minute of it being natural. I could feel her head coming down and going back up which was amazing, I was in my right mind, and I was able to pray while pushing which helped me stay focused and rely on God as my pain relief. I'm still in awe of how well it went, and how fast it went. I would've been happy with 10hrs or less and I got 2 1/2hrs from start to finish! I loved being upright for the whole thing too! Just the perfect birth really! I still can't believe it went so well. And the funny thing is I wouldn't even have made it to Aberdeen had I not fought for Peterhead Maternity. We would've been in the car half way to Aberdeen and my waters would have gone and then it really would've been a panic.
I'm so grateful to God for making it the perfect birth and for even breaking the gas and air tube...LOL. I wanted and planned a completely natural birth but in a moment of weakness I grabbed the tube and it broke...haha. So so so glad it broke, doing it all natural was amazing!!! Praying through each contraction and push and just being aware of God's presence was the best thing about it! It was totally me and God doing our thing and it's exactly how I wanted it to be. Thank you all for your prayers. I love you all!
