View Full Version : Alternate to Snappi?
Kensbev 12-21-2006, 09:35 PM I'm not sure what to do... My daughter has figured out how to take her Snappi off her diaper and is taking her diaper off now at least a couple of times a day.
After thinking about it, I don't think I'm going to try to PT her until February, because she's starting preschool and I think it'll be too much change at once. BUT I would love to find out a way to fasten her diaper that she can't figure out. I'm not too hot on the idea of diaper pins, because I know she knows how they work, and I really don't like the idea of putting something sharp and pointy on her body, so that she can access it when the mood strikes her.
So, is there anything else I can use for her? Or am I stuck with cleaning up after her when she decides to potty outside of the diaper? Also, I've thought about trying to catch her after she removes the diaper but before she tinkles and putting her on the toilet. I'll tell her that if she takes her diaper off, that must mean that she wants to use the potty. Think that'll work?
yah, if she's taking it off I'd say it's a good time to be proactive about introducing PT a little- besides if you start pt, the idea won't be foriegn in preschool where I'm sure she'll get confronted with it either through them training or by watching the other kids. I think the big hurttle is getting them to pee the firt pee and pooh the first pooh=) We always made a HUGE deal out of potty accomplishments- stickers, candy and I even made up a song and dance to the blues clues theme song (old blues)- "emme, went potty, emme went potty, emme went potty, that is what she did!" She got to the point where if she did anything on the potty she'd say "mama, celebrate me." too cute!! Also, get some pull-ups that don't have velcro sides. those are hard to pull off, she'd have to pull them down. I think huggies makes them sown together (maybe pampers) white cloud makes them with velcro, some store brands make them w/o velcro sides. Maybe that will help *shrug*?
Kensbev 12-22-2006, 01:28 PM Thanks for the suggestions. We actually just changed to cloth dipes from using disposable pull-ups. The best thing I ever did for Audrey's little bum, too! She was getting an evil, recurring rash. No amount of diaper cream, antibiotics, or anything we tried seemed to help. So, I switched to cloth, and she's been rash-free since we did. I don't want to go back, lol.
I'm using Proraps for a diaper cover, and I'd just switch to a cover that pulls up, but she's already demonstrated to me that she knows how to remove her pull-ups, so I know it'd just be the same thing.
Until about a week ago, I was sure she wasn't ready to PT. Now, I'm not so sure, but I want to wait until she starts preschool, because I don't want to go through all of that work to have her regress due to the big change in her life. Maybe I'll just put her in overalls until we're ready to train, lol!
jen1981 12-22-2006, 06:36 PM Maybe you could buy some really tough snaps like they have on jeans and put them on there? My kids always had a really hard time getting those snaps undone.
Kensbev 12-25-2006, 09:28 PM I'm still kind of at a loss as to what I should do to keep her diapers on her, lol, but I'm thinking that maybe it'll be as simple as changing her diaper cover? I'm using Proraps covers right now, and I'm wondering if a different cover might make the difference? I know snaps will be more difficult for her to open than velcro, but I'm wondering if they'll deter her any more than what I'm already using. Any suggestions for a dipe cover with tough snaps? :D Please?
glad you found something. Are you getting the XL size now? I have seen those toddler tabe before and almost bought some, but we had some HUGE onesies and also tie pants that we tied tight enough that he could not get out of.
He wore a lot of swim trunks last summer. They have ties. I put ties in a couple pair of sweats, too.
