Audrey's started taking her diaper off when she has to pee now. Yesterday, I caught her with her diaper off and a puddle in the middle of the living room floor. (PTL that we have wood floors in there!) I caught her trying to do that again today. Tonight, after we put her to bed, we heard her up banging around. Ken went in to put her back in bed, and she had removed her pajamas and her diaper and peed in the center of her bed.

Taking off her diaper is nothing new. When she wore disposable dipes, she'd do that all of the time. She never peed when she did it before, though. I'm wondering if this means she recognizes when she has to go now. Is this a sign that I need to dig out the PTing book and get started?

My only concern about training her now is that she's about to make a very big transition at the beginning of January, when preschool starts. And I've heard that big changes for kids sometimes cause them to regress in PTing. So I don't know what to do! Anyone else have any idea?

Hi Bev,

I have a 2 yr. old that I think we are just getting ready to start ourselves!! She's been taking off her diaper & sitting on the potty....but never does anything!!! [rofllol] Since she is my first child...I've never had to potty train myself yet. However, I do have a friend that was on a road trip from Kansas to Oregon...and they started potty training their little girl while ON the road & by the time they got there, she was potty trained!!! I would think that would be very difficult!!! :? So, I think it probably depends on the child.... Also, my sister had been working w/ my nephew to potty train & he was really inconsistent UNTIL they started pre-school/Day Care...and because there were other kids going potty...he picked it right up & had no problems. So, I think it really depends on the child.....BUT, LIS, I haven't done myself yet & haven't had the experience....Just thought I'd share others' experience...
God Bless, Lindsey

Yes, I would definately wait. Big transitions usually do tend to upset PT. It did with my daughter. She was almost trained and then when DS came along, it was all over. She still isn't PT and has no desire to be. So we are waiting for warmer weather when she can run around in panties and maybe she'll have the "want to" by then as well.
