View Full Version : Swaddle Baby?
I always swaddle baby when they are BRAND new with a receiving blanket... but they outgrow them so fast... so I've been looking into the miracle blankets and such. My goodness there are SO many brands of swaddlers out there! Do any of you gals swaddle your babies? Do you find that it DOES help them sleep better and be more content? What brand do you use? so far I really like this miracle blanket~

kanaclark 09-23-2009, 12:45 PM I never swaddled mine. All of ours have been hot natured, so we couldn't do it if we'd wanted. Not to mention thier combativness. But I have had a few larger blankets for them, in case the had no choice, (ie: bonfires, hay rides, etc.)
savedbygrace 09-23-2009, 12:46 PM I swaddled Joey. and yes, eventually he grew out of that stage where he didn't want to be swaddled. But I am excited because I just bought a Muslin swaddle blanket from Marshalls. It gets so hot here and my babies are usually hot natured so, the Muslin blanket should work well. I look forward to using it!
Katielady 09-23-2009, 12:57 PM I swaddled both my boys for the first couple of months at nap and bedtimes. I actually used a swaddler blanket that Chels (myjoyoverflows) got for Cash. It worked great.
btw...anyone ever hear from chels? I pray for them all the time.
PianoMama 09-23-2009, 01:45 PM I swaddled for a few weeks...after that both mine wanted their arms out...
Jessy 09-23-2009, 03:56 PM Someone bought me a swaddle blanket, tried using it once but Payton hated being swaddled.
AbundantlyBlessed 09-23-2009, 04:25 PM I have a good friend who swaddles her son. He would flail his arms around when going to sleep or after getting to sleep and it would affect his quality of sleep. It seemed to be the "magic trick" for him.
JoyLynn 09-23-2009, 04:31 PM We swaddled! When they got bigger and wigglier, we just used larger blankets for swaddling. I don't remember what brands we used for receiving blankets, as it's been soooo long now! heehee!
Funny tidbit... We continued wrapping/tucking them in tightly at bedtime, even after they were really moving around, and now, my kids all still want to be tucked in super tightly every single night! heehee! Carissa will wake up out of a dead sleep and ask to be hugged and tucked in tight again so she can 'feel' it. She's almost 15 years old! teehee! And Scotty, almost 17, hurls his blanket at me as I'm walking into his room at night, for me to wrap it tightly around his shoulders, even if he'll be reading for hours after I hit the hay! Totally cracks me up! LOL! [rotfl]

Yup, mine were all swaddled. And it really did help them sleep better. Maybe it just made them feel more secure? I dunno. We just used receiving blankets (someone made me some *huge* ones that worked for several months) until someone bought us a swaddle me thing (from Walmart) when Callum was born. Liam and Fiona both outgrew swaddling on their own. Callum was still wanting to be swaddled (arms only) at 7/8 months. Since summer was coming, we were able to get him to adjust to not being swaddled by giving him a lovey to sleep with. (And now *THAT* is what he can't sleep without! lol)
So, long story to say: Yes, we did swaddle. Yes, it did help with sleeping. The only swaddler we used was from Walmart. (Can't recall what it was called. It worked well but was small and outgrown FAST!) Hope you decide on something you like! :D

plaid 09-24-2009, 04:23 PM [cheer] We have two Miracle Blankets. We use them everyday. Love them. Dh laughs all the time. It really is a baby straight jacket, but when we do not use it he wakes himself up bonking his face or pulling his own hair. They work great. :-D
mom2pbj 09-25-2009, 10:11 AM We swaddled all of ours. With Evelyn we use the SwaddleMe wrap and it works pretty good. She still breaks out but it helps her sleep better. Without the wrap she will only sleep for 20 or so minutes and then wakes up. We also use a big receiving blanket too.
danou 09-25-2009, 06:31 PM We had a swaddle me... and it was too loose... We usually had more luck with the big huge receiving blankets... we called it the baby burrito! I wouldn't waste my money.
Madre 09-27-2009, 12:05 PM We swaddled them as newborns/infants, except for #3 son. I swaddled him longer because he was sort of on the wild side. :-D Recently I watched my nephew (in law) swaddle his newborn and that little boy was like beans in a tortilla. A baby burrito!
melloyellochelle 09-28-2009, 01:06 AM We've tried tightly swaddling but Grace really doesn't like it. It ends up waking her up when she can't move her arms. So we just swaddle her with her arms out - that way she's warm but not restricted. :)
krazee4jc 12-21-2009, 12:04 AM We bought one with the gift card to see if AJ would like it. He loves it [clapping] Buying him 2 more for christmas
Crissyanna 12-21-2009, 01:13 PM I didn't have anything special to swaddle my girls in. We were given a batch of 4 homemade receiving blankets. Just some nice patterned flannel that had a nice little crochteted trim. They were twice to nearly three times the size of the ones you buy. Dainie wanted swaddled everynight and nap until she was nearly a year old. MyMy decided she didn't like it after about a month or so and would squirm her way out.
I'd say, go to the fabric store, find some cheap flannel and hem it up on the sewing machine. For what you would pay for a swaddler, you can make a ton of cheap flannel ones. Then, if they have a blowout, puke or whatever, you'll have a spare or two and if they get wrecked, it isn't such a huge loss.
savedbygrace 12-21-2009, 02:05 PM I swaddled Ellie for the first week and a half. After that we were done, she just didn't like it anymore.
But I still use my Muslin swaddle blanket for her, I jsut don't tuck her arms in. She loves it because she's such a hot natured baby.
krazee4jc 12-26-2009, 08:54 PM Esther, I wonder when AJ will not like it anymore? He's 2 weeks today at 6:11pm, lol....it's like his favorite thing so far :-D
krazee4jc 02-28-2010, 08:34 PM Just curious, how long will they like the swaddle? Aiden is almost 3months when he's really, really tired we put him in and he's out!
Actually, Rachel was telling me for the last 4 nights he's been sleeping in it and he's out all night. She say's it's been the best nights for her ever :-D
He usually wakes 3times throughout the night.
