Not sure where to put this.....

A few years ago for Christmas I made my dd a barbie house, cheap...

I got a plastic bookshelf from Wal-Mart (white plastic, 4 shelves), (any would do), I got carpet samples for $1.00, that my dh cut to fit (trim corners), then I got cardboard boxes for the walls, I cut them to fit and then covered them with waraping paper (so it would look like wall paper and keep things from falling out), then on the top I cut a box, left the back, bottom and sides (so she could use the top too) and used acrylic paints to make it look like an outside patio (flowerpots, rug, etc).....if it's too tall, you could put them side by side with two boxes on top till she gets taller.....

Anyway, I made it when she was about 5 and she's 9 and still likes it, and when she gets too big for it I have a shelf unit.

we did the same thing...only we used a 35.00 pre-fab wood shelf and cut windows out on the back part before installing it and cut some in the sides....my grandpa then put railing up around the top of the shelf for like a deck on top and mounted a kitchen counter and cabinets on one level for a kitchen! Ended up cute and all from scraps except the shelf....so for less than 50 bucks! So much fun!

Oh, I wish I'd seen this post about a month ago! I just bought a smaller dollhouse for my daughters. It cost $50, but I got it on eBay, so it came with a bunch of dolls, furniture, etc. It just would have been so fun to get creative with something like this, though. :(

I love you dear mommas that are sooo creative!!! IF I attempted a project like that...it would not be pretty!!! [rofllol] I just have no creativity... it's too bad, we are not next door neighbors & I could probably w/ help get it to look somewhat like it's supposed to!! :)
