View Full Version : Baby shower
hi,
just like to know, did you have a baby shower, and how far were you?
what do you think is a good "stage" to hold the shower.
with my first child, my baby shower was organised for like, 2 days before my due date - great hey? well, needless to say, baby was bathed at around about the time the baby shower was supposed to have been. since then, i have this HUGE thing about having a shower, especially close to the end! i am 27 weeks now, and with the month & 1/2 christmas holidays in SA, there is no way that there will be one organised till i am like 33 weeks. which is probably okay, except, well, with my last pregnacy - i was in hospital due at around 32/33 weeks.
besides, being short - i really am feeling more uncomfortable with my growing belly, and people's comments about "Hey, you getting REALLY BIG HEY! " at like 22 weeks when you think you just starting to show does not help at all. i just want to hide away from everyone at around 30 weeks onwards (which would be around NewYear)
am i normal in feeling this way? How would you feel?
mamallama 12-13-2006, 08:04 AM With my last one (can't remember the first) I was about 2 weeks away from my due date and I can remember feeling really uncomfortable the whole time and just so tired. The pictures reflected that, too, unfortunately. If I were you, I'd go ahead and have it! It's your shower - do it when you want. :) I am a total planner and having mine at the last minute was hard for me. But I was trying to be nice - the church was doing for me. :D
Madre 12-13-2006, 08:46 AM hi,

I like the idea of having/giving a shower a couple of months before the due date.
Aalena 12-13-2006, 09:15 AM One of my showers is going to be March 3 and my due date is 4/24. The other 2 will probably be around that same time. I want mine a couple months early so we will be able to see what we need to get.
:) So I am normal at not been keen at having it like 5-8 weeks early.
Thank you.
my husband thinks there is nothing wrong with doing it a month before the time, and since i am not the one organizing it.... i don't get to have much say - i mean, it is suppose to be a surprise.
now i am feeling like just not being very "helpful". i mean, i already don't feel very social. (i am just letting them know that so they would not start to plan)
MomFromCanada 12-13-2006, 01:58 PM I had a baby shower that my friend hosted for me 2 weeks before I was due. I also was tired and uncomfortable. I am also a planner so I was worried I would go early and also it would have been nice to have it a bit sooner so I could see what I was getting and then get other things if need be before the baby came.
buttercup_97140 12-13-2006, 06:39 PM I had my first shower when I was 30 weeks pg. I thought it would be nice to have it a bit before I was due because I could plan, but in all honestly, I don't think babies need that much at first, so I would even plan on having one after the baby is born....more like a meet and greet the baby shower. With this pg we are not having a shower before he is born since he may die before or right after birth, but if he lives I am sure our church will give us one then. I acutally felt pretty good when I was very pg....Yes I wanted to meet my daughter, but I didn't feel overly tired or anything so having a shower later in pg wouldn't have bothered me...but I understand wanting to have it earlier, especially if you have had pre-term labor before!
I say go with what makes you comfy....it's a celebration of a new life, it's not meant to be a stressful time!

Hi,
I am sorry if i sounded so "off" yesterday. i think the heat & tireness was getting to me.
I like the suggestion of having the "meet & greet baby shower" :) i think i will pass that comment to my husband - who is the one that is asking my friend to arrange the whole thing. i think i will relax more then. - knowing I won't go into labour while having a dozen of guests around me. but... i am not suppose to know about it. here it is always a surprise. i like suprises, but not if it is a suprise party for me. i get very axious.
well, today the weather seems alot cooler (bit of drizzle) hope it lasts. then my mood and energy will last longer too.
Thank you ladies. you have given me a new idea about this party. I think i will relax more now. :P
All the best Amber for your little one. put your faith in the Lord, and do not allow the enemy to come kill, steal & destroy. God wants us to have life in abundance. stand on His word & promise!
buttercup_97140 12-14-2006, 03:01 AM Mab,
Thanks for your kind words. :D
When I saw that you wrote about it being hot there, I was like "what?" it's December, but then I see that you are in SA. Do you know what my husband would give to be there? He totally wants to swim with the sharks...LOL  I think he would also like to antagonize the Sprink Bok fans...as he has taken to the All Blacks.....silly guy!
Let us know what happens with the shower!

Hey, why don't you come over then? The hospital (that is like 3km from my place) has the BEST Neo-natal facility in the world! recently, there was a baby born at 25 weeks there - weighing less than a tub of margarine! and she was in the news when she was 10 weeks old. - she made it. you can read about it at : http://www.news24.com/News24/Archive/0,6119,2-1659_1086771,00.html
maybe they won't mind that small missing chromosone on your child, and would be happy to help you?
that way, your hubby can enjoy our ice cold sea in Cape Town, or even swim & feed the sharks at the aquarium and maybe the medical's here won't mind saving your child's life. - then you can have a South African in the family - and be part of the Springbokke !
(if it is an possible option, here is the hospital's web site to find out if they can help you: http://www.panoramamc.co.za/default.asp?menu=false&page=main.aspx )
All the best
buttercup_97140 12-14-2006, 09:31 AM You are so sweet! LOL, if I even mentioned that to my DH we would be packed up and moved in about two minutes....haahaa, no doubt! Thanks for the info, now if Oprah decided to send me like, hmmmm, $50,000, I would totally be on it, but alas...unless that happens, we are staying put. I do know that the Lord can work miracles with even the most plain man, and he knows where Noah will be born already, and that comforts me to no end. He may want us to be in South Africa, or at least answer my Dh's prayers to that.... :D
Blessings to you and your Boks!
