I know it is a little early to be thinking about this, but I am considering sending our son, who will be 5 in August, to Kindergarten this fall. His sister started when she was five and is doing well. But I have heard that boys should wait until they are older. Any thoughts or experience on this? He really wants to go to school, but I don't want to send him too soon.

I am sorry, but as I told DS12 earlier tonight, I will not acknowledge the fact that my baby will start kindergarden in the fall...therefore, there is no need for any further conversation at this point!
(Actually, I would think that this decision would depend totally on the individual child. Only you can know his temperment well enough to know what he can handle)

Boys do tend to be ready later, but it really depends on your son. How will he handle being gone all day with no mommy and no nap. If he seems to be ready for it I would go ahead, and if it is a big problem you could pull him out and wait another year. :D

Two of our boys have summer birthdays (July and August) and we didn't send them to kindergarten until they were 6.

It all depends on the individual child. One of my nephews started when he had turned 5 one week earlier and excelled in school but the other one turned 5 in July and started in August and had to repeat kindergarten the next year because he was not mature enough. If you have a friend that's a teacher, I would talk to him or her and ask their advice when he is closer to starting school.
Best of luck!
