Hi- I have a 2 year old DS. Some nights he will sleep all night in his own crib. Some nights he sleeps all night in our bed. Some nights it is a bit of each. He does not know how to go to sleep by himself. He sits beside me in the chair for naps & bedtime & falls asleep. Then we put him in bed. I want to teach him to go to sleep by himself because pretty soon it will not be too easy getting 2 babies to sleep as I have a 6 week old DD.
So any ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Jacey and welcome to C-Moms! :) I have a little guy (not quite 2) who has a hard time going to sleep on his own. We have found tremendous help from the book by Elizabeth Pantley called The No-Cry Sleep Solution! We've had good success recently with a toddler bed rather than his crib as well, he feels like a big boy in his little bed and looks at his crib and says "baby". (We haven't gotten the crib taken out of his room yet). Hope you have some luck getting him to sleep on his own!

Ditto what Jessy said. My first thought was at two years old you might find you have some success with transitioning him to a bed. (Toddler, twin....whatever you choose.) Especially since he has a baby sister and you could really play up the "you're a big boy now....big boys sleep in their own special bed!" angle. I recently read Elizabeth Pantley's book as well and I agree that it could be a helpful one for you to read.
Let us know how you are doing and feel free to ask any specific questions - there are lots of us here that can jump in with ideas.
ETA: Do you have a bedtime routine for him so that he can unwind in ways other than you sitting in the chair beside him? Also, I was wondering if he has a special toy that he sleeps with? (He may already, but if he doesn't that might help too!)

Well usually we have a snack & sometimes a bath. Then he always drinks a milk cup. He does not sleep with anything so maybe we could try his toy dog or thomas since he loves thomas. I did think about putting him in a big bed, but was worried about how to get him to stay in bed because we still have trouble getting Dd to stay in her bed.

What works for us is taking away privileges, but our son will be 3 in November and we just started that. Maybe it would work for a 2 year old too? We also recently transitioned to the toddler bed. I had to transition out of his room some time ago, but now I pretty much sit outside of his room to make sure he is not getting out of his bed.
He gets a sticker in the morning if he has not gotten out of his bed, but I usually give one once and then tell him if he does it again he will lose his sticker in the morning. If I he gets of bed and loses the sticker the next thing that would "go" is his DVD privilege the next morning (I let him have a certain amount of DVD time every morning). That usually works... he LOVES DVDs.
