Who knew that cloth diapering would be so difficult! For me, at least.

I got my dipes yesterday, figured out how many times to wash them, washed them and got them ready to start Tory out with them this morning... And they're too small for my Jolly Blonde Giant! At least, if I fold them in the traditional way.

But, with a little thinking on my part, I've figured out how to fold them so that they'll last until we get the larger size that I had to order this morning. I really thought that the smaller ones would fit her, but nope! A $20 lesson I wish I hadn't had to learn, but *sigh* I guess I can put them aside for a little bit while I try to convince DH that we really need a third child. (I was already trying to, this is just a little additional incentive, lol.)

you can still use the small ones for changing pads, spit rags, and doublers!

I predict that by summer, you'll be wanting to tie-dye them, too. I have some GORGEOUS prefolds!

Rach, how do you tie dye prefolds? That sounds interesting.

Ohmigosh! Rach, I don't know you, but if you were here right now, I'd hug you! When you told me to save the small diapers to use as different things, including doublers, I had a stroke of genius.

I got some Gerber cloth diapers (the only cloth ones I can find in a store around here). They are nowhere near the thickness of the prefolds I bought, BUT they are big enough that I can line one of the Gerbers with one of the smaller Indian prefolds, and that should give her the coverage she'll need until the larger Indian prefolds arrive.

It is just so awesome that I've figured out how to make this work without going back to disposables. I am seriously sold on cloth diapers now that I've used them for a little bit, and I'm really happy that I don't have to go back now that I know what I'm missing!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Rach! And, oh yeah, I dig the idea of tye-die! BM, I'd think that you'd do it like you would a T-shirt or anytging else. There are different folds, depending on what pattern you want. (We tye-died in art class.) http://www.prochemical.com/directions/Folding.htm

I just went to JoAnn's and got the kit. I got the one with the pre-treater. That seals the dyes in or something. If you just use regular Rit dye, it tends to keep bleeding out.

You can also do veggie dyes. Google it... and alum sounds fancy, but it's in the spice section at the grocery store.
